I just pre-ordered the iPhone 17 Pro and I’m beyond excited to test out the upgraded camera system! I’m planning to use it as my primary device for travel photography and some light vlogging, so I want to make sure I have the right gear from day one. In the past, I’ve struggled with shaky handheld footage and poor lighting in indoor shots, and I really want to level up my content this time around.

I’ve been looking into magnetic filter systems—specifically ND filters for that cinematic motion blur—but I’m not sure which brands are currently leading the pack for the 17 series. I’m also curious if anyone has found a compact, MagSafe-compatible tripod or grip that doesn’t add too much bulk to a pocketable setup. My budget is around $200-$300 for a few essential pieces.

Since this model has those specific lens upgrades, are there any particular gimbals or external microphones that you guys feel are absolute must-haves? I’d love to hear what you’re adding to your kit to get the most out of the new sensors. What are your top recommended camera accessories that actually make a difference in image quality or workflow?

yo! so stoked for you on the 17 Pro pre-order! honestly, i've been diving deep into the tech specs since the announcement. if you wanna nail that cinematic look, check out the Moment MagSafe Filter Mount combined with the Moment 67mm Cinebloom Diffusion Filter. i've used this setup on the 15 and 16, and it's basically a game changer for taking that digital edge off the sensor.

for the tripod/grip situation, you gotta compare these two approaches:

1. **The Minimalist Path:** Peak Design Mobile Tripod — it's literally the thickness of a credit card but super sturdy. perfect for travel.
2. **The Pro-Grip Path:** ShiftCam SnapGrip Classic — it feels like a real DSLR and has a built-in power bank.

pro tip: for vlogging, definitely grab the Rode Wireless ME Compact Wireless Microphone System. it's tiny and the auto-gain saves your audio every time. i think it'll fit ur budget perfectly if you shop around! gl!

Seconding the recommendation above regarding quality glass. Honestly, I've spent a fortune on gear over the years and learned the hard way that cheap filters *literally* kill your sharpness. Since you're on a $200-$300 budget, you gotta be smart about where you put your money because high-end gimbals will eat that up fast.

I actually had a pretty bad experience with bulky gimbals lately—they're just not as good as expected for travel because of the setup time. You end up missing the shot while balancing the thing. Plus, the iPhone+17+Pro&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone 17 Pro's internal stabilization is already insane. Instead of a gimbal, I'd suggest looking at these specific budget-friendly but pro-level items:

* PolarPro LiteChaser Pro 15/16/17 CP Filter - PolarPro makes some of the most color-neutral glass out there. It's essential for cutting glare on water or glass during travel.
* ShiftCam SnapGrip Magnetic Battery Camera Grip - This is my go-to. It gives you that DSLR feel and acts as a power bank, which you'll definitely need when vlogging.
* SmallRig Selection Tabletop Tripod with Hidden Phone Clamp DT-02 - Super compact and fits in a jacket pocket easily.

Quick tip: prioritize a solid variable ND filter over a gimbal. For vlogging, if you find the audio is still lacking, the Saramonic Blink500 B2+ Wireless Microphone System is a way better value than the more expensive brands and the dual-channel setup is clutch for interviews. Good luck with the new rig!! 👍

Honestly, after shooting with iPhones+for+years&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhones for years, my biggest tip is to prioritize safety and stability before you drop $300 on glass. I've had issues with cheap magnetic mounts failing mid-vlog, and with the weight of the new 17 Pro, you really don't want your phone hitting the pavement. For your budget, I'd skip the generic stuff and grab the PolarPro LiteChaser Pro 15/16/17 Magnetic Filter System. It's basically the gold standard for secure mounting.

Also, if you're worried about shaky footage, gimbals are kinda bulky for travel... tbh I'd just get the ShiftCam SnapGrip Classic for a secure, ergonomic hold that actually makes it feel like a real camera. It adds some heft which highkey helps stabilize handheld shots way better than just pinching the thin frame of the phone. Plus it's got a built-in battery which is a lifesaver cuz 4K recording LITERALLY kills your charge. gl with the new setup!!

Watch out for cheap generic filters!! In my experience, crappy glass LITERALLY ruins those high-res sensors with weird color shifts and blurring. Since the 17 Pro lenses are so advanced, bad optics basically cancel out the upgrade.

I recommend:
- Quality magnetic filters from brands like Moment or Freewell.
- A MagSafe grip like the ones from ShiftCam to kill shakiness... it's lowkey a lifesaver for vlogging.

Ur gonna love the setup!! gl

Yeah I totally agree with the point about gimbals being a hassle for travel because I bought one for my last trip and honestly it just stayed in my backpack the whole time. It is so much easier to just use the internal stabilization since it is already so good on these newer phones. As someone who has been doing this for a bit now but still feels like a total beginner sometimes I think the most practical thing you can get is a good light and extra storage. If youre doing indoor shots like you mentioned a small light is basically a requirement to keep the grain out of your videos. I have been using these for a long time and they really hold up:

  • Lume Cube Panel Mini for soft lighting that isnt harsh on faces
  • SmallRig MagSafe Phone Tripod Mount which is super fast to snap on and off
  • Samsung T7 Shield 1TB SSD so you dont run out of space while traveling One thing I noticed over the last year is that magnetic stuff can sometimes slip if you get a cheap case so make sure your case has really strong magnets too. Also dont forget a simple cleaning kit because even a tiny smudge on those big 17 Pro lenses will make everything look like it was filmed through a fog. Do you think you will be shooting mostly in ProRAW?
