Hey everyone! I just finally upgraded to the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and while I am absolutely loving the massive screen real estate, I’ve run into a bit of a practical dilemma: I have no idea how to safely mount this thing in my car. My old reliable vent mount, which worked perfectly for my standard Pixel 7, just isn't cutting it anymore.
The Fold is a completely different beast. When it’s folded, it’s a bit thicker than a normal phone, and when it’s unfolded, it’s basically a small tablet. I’m really struggling to find a solution that feels secure. I’ve tried using my existing gravity-clamp mount, but the weight of the Fold makes the whole thing sag downward, and I’m terrified that a sudden pothole is going to send my expensive new device flying into the footwell.
I’m specifically looking for something that can handle the weight and the unique dimensions. Ideally, I’d love a mount that allows me to keep the phone unfolded so I can use that gorgeous 8-inch inner display for Google Maps and Spotify side-by-side. Has anyone found a heavy-duty mount that actually stays put? I’m torn between a dashboard suction mount or maybe one of those motorized clamping ones, but I’m worried about whether the arms will interfere with the power or volume buttons on the side.
Another thing I’m considering is whether to go the MagSafe route with an adhesive ring on my case, but I’m skeptical if magnets alone can hold a foldable this heavy during a bumpy commute. Does anyone have experience with specific brands like ProClip, OhSnap, or even some of the tablet-sized mounts that might work for the Fold? I really don't want to resort to a cup holder mount because I need my caffeine close at hand!
What are you all using to keep your Pixel 9 Pro Fold secure and viewable while driving?
hey, i feel u... i've been struggling with this exact same thing. the pixel 9 pro fold is a beast and unfortunately, most regular mounts just cant handle the torque from that 257g weight. i actually tried a few options: 1. **Motorized Clamps:** I tried the Baseus 15W Wireless Car Charger Mount but had issues with the sensor and the arms hitting the volume rocker. the motor gear felt realy weak under the weight.
2. **Magnetic:** i used a ring on the Spigen Tough Armor Pro Case for Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but it was highkey disappointing. it just slides off because the center of gravity is so offset when unfolded. 3. **Heavy Duty:** honestly, just get the ProClip Large Universal Adjustable Padded Phone Holder 246807 paired with a vehicle-specific base. it’s a rock solid two-part system. Basically, proclip is the only way to keep that 8-inch screen stable without it sagging. gl!
This^ Also wanted to add, i totally agree about the weight... gravity mounts are basically useless here. In my experience, you dont need to spend a fortune tho. Ive tried many over the years and small tablet mounts are way more stable cuz they distribute weight across a wider base. 1. APPS2Car Universal CD Slot Tablet Mount - locks in for zero sag.
2. VICSEED Tablet Car Mount for Dashboard - perfect for unfolded views. Mechanical grips over magnets every time!
> In my experience, you dont need to spend a fortune tho. Ive tried many over the years and small tablet mounts are way more stable... yo, totally agree with the tablet mount idea—it’s basically the only way to get a wide enough grip. I went through this same struggle last year and honestly, safety has to come first with a device this heavy. I’ve actually seen standard mounts literally snap vent blades or sag so low they block the shifter, which is scary!! In my experience, I’ve found the only way to feel 100% secure is using a mounting system with a heavy-duty base. I once had a suction mount fail during a bumpy turn and my phone almost ended up under the brake pedal... definately a nightmare scenario. Now I’m super cautious and always look for a rigid arm that doesnt vibrate. It might look "industrial" but keeping that expensive Fold from flying into the footwell is the priority, imo. anyway, gl!
Noted!
Yep, this is the way
This^ Also wanted to add, be careful with vents... that weight is scary! Maybe try: 1. RAM Mounts X-Grip Large Phone Holder with RAM Twist-Lock Suction Cup RAM-B-166-UN10U It's super secure.
