Hey folks! I just finally got my hands on the new Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and man, this thing is a beast. The screen is gorgeous, but it’s definitely on the heavier side compared to my old phone. I’m looking for a solid car mount that can actually handle the size and weight of this device without wobbling every time I hit a speed bump.
I’m currently using a thin silicone case, but I’m considering switching to a MagSafe-compatible one if there are better mounting options that way. I’ve had bad luck with vent mounts in the past where they just sag under the weight of larger phones, so I’m leaning towards something that sticks to the dashboard or maybe even a sturdy claw-style mount. I’m also curious if anyone has tried the Google-specific chargers or brands like iOttie and Peak Design with this specific model. I really want something that stays secure during long drives but won't damage my interior. What are the top-rated car mounts you’d recommend for the Pixel 9 Pro XL that provide a secure fit and a good viewing angle for navigation?
ok so, i totally feel u on the weight issue. i actually had some bad luck with those cheap plastic mounts lately... they just cant handle these "beast" phones. unfortunately, i spent like $30 on a generic claw that literally snapped off my dash after a week. not as good as expected at all!! Here is what i suggest for ur Pixel 9 Pro XL: * Peak Design Mobile Car Mount - Magnetic & Adhesive Dashboard Mount - this is highkey the best if u switch to a MagSafe case (which u should). it's a bit pricey but the magnet is ACTUALLY strong enough for the XL.
* iOttie Easy One Touch 6 Dashboard & Windshield Mount - good if u stick with ur silicone case, but the suction can mess up ur dash over time (at least it did to mine). basically, the weight is the real killer here. most cheap stuff wont hold up, so its worth spending a bit more now so ur phone doesnt fly off mid-turn lol. gl!!
Quick question - are you looking for a mount that actually charges the phone, or just something sturdy to hold it up for maps?? Honestly, I've been around the block with car accessories for years and had issues with expensive "premium" brands failing after just one summer in the sun. Since the Pixel 9 Pro XL is basically a heavy brick at 221g, we gotta make sure the mount wont just snap off. Before I give full advice, I'm curious if you're dead set on the MagSafe route. If you are, you could grab a ESR Magnetic Car Mount (HaloLock) for like $20, which is way cheaper than the Peak Design stuff. But if you wanna save even more, a mechanical grip like the VICSEED Universal Car Phone Mount is usually around $18 and has a reinforced hook that actually holds the weight. I'm kinda disappointed in how much big brands charge for plastic these days, so I'm always looking for those budget-friendly alternatives that actually last. Lmk about the charging!
yo, just saw this thread and honestly, i feel your pain with the heavy phone struggle. I've wasted sooo much money on those generic mounts that claim to be "heavy duty" but end up sagging the moment you hit a pebble. Unfortunately, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is basically a tank at 221g, so those friction-based clips are just not as good as expected for this weight class. Check out the r/GooglePixel community on Reddit; there's a great resource there where people track mount stability specifically for the heavier XL models. I've had issues with expensive "premium" brands before, so if you're looking for budget-friendly but solid, I'd look at the Spigen OneTap MagSafe Car Mount Adhesive Dashboard. It uses 3M VHB adhesive which is way more reliable than suction. Comparison-wise:
- ProClip Center Mount 855600: Rock solid but kinda pricey since you have to buy the dash base and the holder separately. - Scosche MagicMount Pro 2 Magnetic Dash Mount: Better value/budget ratio and uses strong neodymium magnets. Pro tip: If you switch to MagSafe, make sure the magnets are N52 grade to handle that 221g weight. Instead of a pricey new case, just grab the ESR MagSafe Ring 360 for your current silicone one to save cash. It definately gives you the same strength for way less money. gl! peace
Been using this for years, no complaints
Ok so, I see everyone recommending these pricey brand-name setups, but I gotta disagree with the idea that you need to spend a fortune to keep a heavy phone stable. Tbh, I've been down the road of buying $50 mounts only to have them fail when the sun gets too hot. As someone who prefers a DIY approach, I’ve found that the budget-friendly way is actually way more secure if you’re willing to put in five minutes of work. Instead of buying into a whole premium ecosystem, I usually go for a sturdy, no-frills option like the Lamicall Car Phone Holder and then over-engineer it myself. Most of those dash mounts fail because the factory adhesive is cheap, so I just peel off the stock pad and use a piece of 3M VHB tape from the hardware store. It stays solid as a rock even with the 221g weight of the XL. If you're worried about the viewing angle, here's my budget setup:
100% agree
To add to the point above: it seems like the consensus is that weight is the biggest enemy for the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Since you are worried about the interior and long-term use, I would suggest being extremely careful with a few things before you commit to a specific setup:
