Hey! Looking for the best gimbal to use with my Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. So many options! I'm mostly filming car content - walkarounds, driving shots, etc. Ideally something that can handle some bumps. What's the best gimbal you'd recommend for smooth video on a $300 budget?

Tbh I'm still learning the ropes with my Pixel 10 Pro XL, but I spent the last week doing some real-world stress tests. I was super worried about the weight and how the motors would hold up during actual driving shots. I ended up trying the Zhiyun Smooth 5S because it felt more like a pro tool for handling a heavy payload. Here’s what I found from my testing:
- Calibration is everything. If you don't balance it perfectly while the power is off, the motors start vibrating like crazy after 10 minutes.
- Use the 'Sport' mode for car walkarounds. It reacts way faster to those quick movements without getting that weird floaty lag. I’m still playing around with it, but the extra torque on this one seems to handle the bumps way better than the smaller ones I’ve seen. Does anyone else notice the motors getting kinda warm when filming in 4K for a long time? Just wanna make sure I'm not pushing it too hard!!!

Get the  DJI Osmo Mobile 7P. Easy to use, love it.

I definitely agree with the point about the motor torque and weight. I have a similar setup for car vlogs and the physical fitment is actually what stressed me out the most during my first few shoots. Even if the weight is technically under the limit, the dimensions of these huge phones can be a real PAIN to deal with. Here is what I ran into:

  • The power and volume buttons on my phone are right in the middle, so the clamp often triggers them unless I mount it slightly off-center.
  • Adding a case for protection makes the phone so thick that it barely fits in the grip of the one I got.
  • I found that when I tilt the camera up for interior shots, the motor arm sometimes clips the corner of the phone because it is SO wide. Basically, even if a stabilizer says it can hold the weight, the actual physical clearance is a different story. I am still a bit nervous about the long-term strain on the motors when it is not perfectly balanced.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.

DJI Osmo Mobile is recommend.

^ This. Also, people really underestimate the physics involved when you're swinging a phone that's nearly seven inches long. Even if the weight is technically within the payload limit, the center of gravity on the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is shifted way out compared to older models. I ran into this exact issue last summer filming a track day. My current setup kept throwing an axis error every time I did a fast pan because the motor was fighting the leverage of the phone length, not just its weight. I ended up having to use small adhesive counterweights on the motor arm just to get it to balance properly without the motors overheating. It is a bit of a workaround, but it made a massive difference in how the software handled the stabilization. Also, keep in mind that car interiors are tight. A gimbal with a larger physical footprint might hit the dashboard or steering wheel during low-angle shots. I learned the hard way that a more compact arm design is sometimes better than raw motor power if you're working in a cramped cockpit... basically, check those clearance measurements before you commit.

Been there! Forget the bells & whistles. For car stuff, the DJI Osmo Mobile SE punches way above its weight. Seriously smooths out bumps. I got mine for around $100. Spend the rest on extra batteries – you'll thank me later for those long shoots. Trust me, I've tried the expensive ones; diminishing returns, especially for YouTube.

Pixel 10 Pro XL's hefty! Payload capacity matters. DJI OM series *might* struggle with extra lenses/mics. Stabilizer torque (Nm) is key - check specs! Phone clamps vary; ensure a *secure* fit. Consider rig weight too; long shoots get tiring. I'd suggest testing before buying to avoid disappointment, especially if you plan on adding accessories.

For car content on a budget, skip the fancy gimbals. I've tried many! Instead, consider a used DJI Osmo Mobile. You can often find older models (like a Osmo Mobile 3) for under $100 in good condition. More importantly, invest in a good phone mount and practice smooth movements while driving. Saved me tons of cash over the years!

Before chasing smooth footage, consider mount SAFETY. Phone mounts CAN fail. I'd suggest a REALLY robust setup, even if it means stretching your gimbal budget a bit. A dropped phone at 60mph is expensive AND dangerous. DJI gimbals are popular, but double-check their clamp strength. Make sure your mount is securely attached to your car too!
