I’ve finally upgraded to the Pixel 9 Pro XL, but I need to protect this investment! I want a slim case that still handles drops well, and a screen protector that won’t mess up the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Have you found any specific brands that fit perfectly without lifting at the edges?

For your situation, i gotta say... finding that perfect balance between slim and protective is a total pain. i mean, ive wasted so much cash on "premium" gear that felt like cheap plastic. honestly, the new ultrasonic scanner is great but it makes picking glass a nightmare. unfortunately, many brands claim they're compatible but then the biometrics just fail... it's sooo frustrating. Here's what i recommend for the best value: 1. Caseology Athlex for Pixel 9 Pro XL - this is my go-to. it has a unique sandstone texture that’s super grippy so u wont drop it, but it’s still slim enough for pockets. way better value than the $60 boutique stuff.
2. amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass for Pixel 9 Pro XL - this kit is a lifesaver cuz it comes with an alignment tool to prevent lifting. the glass is thin enough that the scanner actually works fine, just make sure to re-scan your thumbs after installing!! dont overspend on the google-store stuff tho, it's basically the same quality as these... peace!

Just sharing my experience: scanners hate air. I used Whitestone Dome Glass Screen Protector for Pixel 9 Pro XL and Ringke Onyx Magnetic Case for Pixel 9 Pro XL. TL;DR: RELIABLE safety!

I was literally just looking at my phone thinking about this because I used to be the person who always went to the mall and paid way too much for someone else to put my screen protector on but this time I decided to be brave and just do it myself at home which was actually pretty stressful but also kind of fun in a weird way and honestly I saved a ton of money. Here is what I learned from my first real DIY attempt:
- Running the shower to get steam in the room actually works for keeping dust off the screen while you work
- You really have to be *so* patient with the tiny bubbles and just keep pushing them out with a card
- My current slim case fits perfectly because I made sure to align the glass slightly higher than center Does anyone else get really nervous right before they drop the glass onto the screen or is it just me? I’m still a total beginner at this stuff but I’m pretty happy I didn't pay for a pro service because the setup I got fits great and the sensor works fine now.

Yeah I totally agree about the DIY screen protector thing, that shower steam trick is basically magic for getting a clean install at home. Since I am planning to keep my Pixel 9 Pro XL for the long haul, I wanted something that would not yellow or fall apart after a few months. I am still kind of figuring out which brands are the absolute best since this is my first real flagship, but I have been reallyyy happy with a couple things I found. I ended up going with the Mous Super Thin Magnetic Case for Pixel 9 Pro XL and it is honestly so sleek. It does not add any bulk at all which was my main worry but it still feels really solid in the hand. For the screen, I used the Supershieldz Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Pixel 9 Pro XL and it has been great with the ultrasonic scanner so far. I just made sure to turn on the screen protector mode in the settings and it works every time. Does anyone else feel like the official cases are worth the extra money though? I saw them in the store and they looked nice but I wasnt sure if they protect as well as the third party ones.

ok so basically ultrasonic scanners are super picky about air gaps... it literally ruins the biometrics if the glass is too thick. ive been through tons of pixels and honestly, you dont need to spend $50. for your situation: 1. Spigen Liquid Air Case for Pixel 9 Pro XL - thin profile, great grip, and usually $15-17.
2. amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass for Pixel 9 Pro XL - basically $10 for a 2-pack and the fingerprint sensor actually works. gl!

tbh i have been stressing over this since i saw this post yesterday... i am so paranoid about dropping mine. i really want this phone to last for the next few years so i am being super picky. just a heads up from my past mistakes though, watch out for those cases that are too slim. they look great but if they dont have a raised edge around the camera bar or the screen, it is basically like having no protection at all. i have also been hearing that some of the glass protectors that use the uv glue can be a total mess if you have never done it before... like if you get glue in the speakers it is basically game over. i am probably gonna stick to something with an alignment tool just to be safe. it is such a gamble trying to find something that actually works with the fingerprint scanner without compromising on the thickness.
