Finally moving on from my old Pixel 4a (RIP battery life)—it served me well but the screen is basically held together by tape at this point. I'm looking at the Pixel 8a because I love the size and camera. I’ve been researching cases and keep seeing the Spigen Tough Armor, but some reviews say it makes the phone feel like a brick—which kind of defeats the point of a smaller phone, right? I also looked at the dbrand Grip, but I'm worried it's more about aesthetics than actual drop protection. My budget is around $50 for both the case and screen protector. Does anyone have a setup that’s actually slim but can handle a drop on concrete? Or maybe a specific tempered glass brand that doesn't mess with the fingerprint sensor?

^ This. Also, get the Caseology Athlex for Pixel 8a because:

  • It uses dual-layers — for cushioning — and
  • Grippy sides.

Wait, no — it's actually slimmer than it looks and protects better.

I'm no expert but I just looked into this last week—trying to save some cash after the phone purchase—and found a really slim combo.

  • Spigen Liquid Air (much thinner than the Tough Armor)
  • amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector It cost me like $30 total—actually, maybe $32—which leaves you money for a charger since the 8a doesn't come with one anyway.
