Hey everyone! I just finally pulled the trigger on the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and I am beyond excited to get my hands on it. It is a huge investment though, and given the size and that new camera bar design, I really want to make sure I have the right gear ready the moment it arrives.
I am usually someone who goes for slim cases like the ones from Spigen or Bellroy, but since this phone is quite a bit larger, I am a bit worried about drops. I have been looking at the dbrand Grip or maybe something from Mous, but I am not sure which one provides the best balance between protection and not making the phone feel like a literal brick in my pocket. I definitely want something with a good lip to protect that massive screen.
Also, I noticed it does not come with a charging brick in the box. I know this model supports faster charging than previous Pixels, specifically that new 45W peak speed. I have a few old USB-C bricks from my Pixel 6, but I am pretty sure they won't hit the max speeds needed for a quick top-off.
Has anyone found a case that really complements the new look without being too bulky? And for the charger, should I just stick with the official Google 45W brick, or is there a better third-party PPS option from brands like Anker or Ugreen that you recommend?
so i've been through every pixel since the og and honestly i totally get the anxiety about dropping a phone this big... the pixel 9 pro xl is a massive slab of glass and that new camera bar is just begging for scratches. for your situation i suggest going with the Caseology Athlex for Pixel 9 Pro XL. it is lowkey one of the best values out there because it has this unique sandstone texture that makes it super easy to grip. i found that with larger phones like this one, it's not just about the drop protection but about not letting it slip out of your hand in the first place!! the lip on the athlex is surprisingly beefy too so your screen stays off the table. on the charging side... you definitely wont get those 45w peak speeds with your old pixel 6 bricks cuz they lack the newer power profiles. if you want to save some money over the official google one i would recommend the Samsung 45W USB-C Fast Charging Wall Charger (EP-T4510). i've tested it across multiple devices and it works perfectly with the pixels charging curve. it's basically the same tech inside as the official one but you aren't paying the google tax. another solid choice if you have a laptop too is the Baseus 65W GaN5 Fast Wall Charger which is super compact and handles the 45w requirement easily. just remember to use a high-quality cable like the Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable (Bio-Braided) to ensure you're actually getting that full speed. anyway hope that helps you save a few bucks while keeping that new toy safe!! gl
yo, just found this thread. basically, for 45w speeds, you NEED a charger with PPS (Programmable Power Supply). it adjusts voltage in real-time so your battery doesnt overheat. safety is highkey huge, you know? 1. Use Ugreen Nexode 65W USB C Charger for solid PPS support.
In my experience, you really gotta be careful with those slim cases... i actually had a bad experience where a thin case lip wasnt high enough and my screen shattered. ngl it was super disappointing. since the pixel 9 pro xl is literally a tank you gotta protect it right.
Can vouch for this
Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷
> Also, I noticed it does not come with a charging brick in the box. I know this model supports faster charging than previous Pixels, specifically that new 45W peak speed. @Reply #6 - good point! Had a moment to think about this more and honestly, I am very satisfied with how the XL handles power. It works well but I disagree with the idea that any old PPS charger is the same. To hit that 45W peak, the technical specs on the brick really matter, especially the voltage stages and amperage. Quick question: are you looking for a charger that supports the full 5A PPS profile for the fastest possible top-off, or are you okay with a 3A one that might take longer? Also, for cases, are you trying to find something with built-in magnets for mounting or is that not a factor for you?
ngl you gotta be careful with the pps specs on these new units because some brands claim 45w but dont actually support the specific high-current profile the pixel 9 pro xl needs for that top speed. i have a couple questions to help narrow it down:
Did this last week, worked perfectly
My buddy told me the exact same thing last week. Guess he was right lol.
