Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a fast charger and some tough cables for the new Pixel 8a because honestly I'm so confused by all the PPS and PD 3.0 talk online? I'm finally upgrading from my old Pixel 4a which I love but the battery is basically a potato now and it takes like three hours to get a full charge which is just not gonna work for me anymore. I did some digging and saw people mentioning the Anker Nano 30W but then I read a few threads saying some cables dont actually support the full speed or they dont trigger the "charging rapidly" text on the screen and tbh I just want something that works every time without me having to double check it. I checked the official Google one too but it feels kinda overpriced for just a brick? My budget is flexible but I dont wanna waste money on stuff that doesnt actually charge any faster than my old 5W blocks. Also I need cables that wont fray in a week because my cat thinks they are snacks lol. Is it worth getting a 45W brick or is that just overkill for the 8a? Just want to make sure I get the right kit so I dont ruin the battery life on day one...

Saw this and had to chime in cuz I just set up my 8a. Dont overthink the PPS stuff, just get these:

  • Anker 511 Charger Nano 3 is perfect and way cheaper than the Google one.
  • Anker 765 USB-C to USB-C Cable Nylon is basically cat-proof and triggers "charging rapidly" EVERY time. 30W is plenty, 45W is just wasting money tbh...

> I checked the official Google one too but it feels kinda overpriced for just a brick? The consensus here is that a 45W charger is unnecessary since the Pixel 8a peaks at 18W. High-quality PPS support and durable cables are the priority. Here is a comparison of the safest options: 1. Google 30W USB-C Power Charger
Pros: It is the safest choice because it is built to Google's exact specifications. You will not have to worry about handshake issues or voltage spikes.
Cons: Higher price point. 2. Anker 511 Nano 3 30W
Pros: Very compact. Anker has a good track record for thermal management and efficiency.
Cons: Many clones exist online. Just make sure you are buying from a reputable retailer to avoid safety risks. 3. Ugreen Nexode 30W GaN Charger
Pros: Solid build quality and often more affordable than Anker.
Cons: Slightly heavier design. For the cables, if your cat is an issue, look at the Anker 765 USB-C to USB-C Cable Nylon or the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Flex USB-C Cable. The Belkin is reinforced and has a silicone jacket under the braid for extra protection against chewing. Double-check that any charger you buy explicitly lists PPS (Programmable Power Supply) in the technical specs. Without it, the phone may default to 10W or 12W, which causes the slow charging you are trying to avoid. I'd recommend sticking to name brands for the power brick; saving a few dollars is not worth the risk of damaging your battery's long-term health.

> Is it worth getting a 45W brick or is that just overkill for the 8a? I've been through three generations of Pixel phones and the charging speeds haven't changed as much as marketing suggests. A 45W brick is definitely overkill for the 8a. This device peaks around 18W and stays there for a very short window before thermal throttling kicks in. You are paying a premium for wattage the phone cannot actually use. Be careful with cheap cables that claim to be "heavy duty" or "braided." I've seen many that are just thin copper wrapped in fancy nylon. If the cable lacks an E-Marker chip, it may fail to communicate correctly with the PPS protocol. This leads to the phone defaulting to a slower 5V/1A cycle. You will see "charging slowly" on your lock screen even with a high-end brick. I tried using high-wattage laptop chargers years ago thinking it would speed things up. It was garbage for phone longevity. Excessive heat is what ruins these batteries. Stick to a 30W PD 3.0 PPS compliant charger. Anything more provides zero benefit for this specific hardware. As for the cat, avoid standard rubberized cables. They have a texture pets love to chew. Look for cables with a double-braided outer layer or a metal spring jacket. They are less flexible but survive teeth better than the stock white cables. Even "tough" cables can fail if the internal wiring is too thin to handle the 3-amp requirement for fast charging.
