I just pre-ordered the S26 Plus for my hiking trip in Colorado next month and I'm honestly terrified of dropping it on a trail. I've been trying to research cases but I'm totally lost—everything is so technical. I saw people talking about 'MIL-STD-810G' (no idea what that actually guarantees) and I looked at the Otterbox Defender—it looks like a literal brick though. I also saw the Spigen Tough Armor but I'm worried it's too thin for actual rocks? I need something under $60 and I really don't want to ruin this phone before I even pay it off. Do I need a screen protector built-in too, or is that overkill? Which cases are actually the best for drops?

Look, I've spent 25 years in a shop dropping heavy tools on concrete. Listen, that MIL-STD-810G rating is just a baseline test from four feet. It doesn't account for jagged rocks or momentum. 1. Buy the OtterBox Defender Series Case for Samsung S26 Plus. It is a brick for a reason. It uses a multi-layer system where the inner shell and outer rubber slipcover disperse kinetic energy.
- If you want less bulk, get the UAG Monarch Pro Case for Samsung S26 Plus. It has five layers of protection and is rated for 25-foot drops.
- Built-in screen protectors are junk. They trap grit that scratches your glass. Use a Whitestone Dome Glass Screen Protector for S26 Plus. It uses liquid adhesive to create a proper bond. Don't put a $5 case on a $1,000 tool.

Saw this and had to chime in—I usually just lurk (social anxiety, right?), but re: "Look, I've spent 25 years in a shop..." — that guy is spot on about the bulk, but you can definitely do it for way less.
- Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro for S26 Plus is basically a fortress for under $30.
- Poetic Revolution Series for S26 Plus has those huge reinforced corners — wait, 'impact bumpers' — that are lifesavers on jagged granite.
