Can I get a credit if an Amazon item price falls?

Ive been using Prime since like 2015 so I usually know my way around the UI but I ran into something annoying today. I bought a Sony A7IV camera for my photography side hustle last Tuesday for $2,498 and I just saw the price dropped by over $200 this morning. I remember back in the day they had a 7-day price protection policy where theyd just credit your account the difference if you asked. Now I keep hearing they stopped doing that entirely which sounds crazy for a $2,500 item. Is there any trick to get a price adjustment credit these days or do I seriously have to return the whole thing and rebuy it just to save the $200?

That Sony A7IV is an amazing piece of gear but Amazon is super annoying about these price drops! I have dealt with this before and they just dont budge anymore. Here is how to handle it:

  • Order the new camera at the cheaper price right now
  • Start a return on your original order
  • Send the expensive one back for a full refund It is a total pain but saving $200 is fantastic for your business!

Re: "That Sony A7IV is an amazing piece of..." - unfortunately, dont swap units. Amazon verifies serials on high-end gear now. Price Drop Catch has history charts too. TL;DR they check serials.

Exactly what I was thinking

Unfortunately, Amazon is useless for credits. I had to return my last 33MP body for the same reason.

  • Use Price Drop Catch
  • Track price volatility Returning is your only option tho.

Regarding what #4 said about "Bookmarked, thanks!" - honestly same here because keeping track of these policies is a nightmare. In my experience, Amazon is totally done with the price protection game. They used to be cool about it, but over the years they realized it was cheaper to make you jump through hoops to get your money back. They basically expect most people to be too lazy to return and rebuy. Since you are looking at a $200 difference tho, you definitely shouldnt let them keep it. Here is how I handle these situations:

  • Check your credit card perks first because some still have price protection as a built-in feature.
  • If you do the return/rebuy, make sure the serial numbers match the specific order or they will flag it.
  • Never open the second box, just slap the return label for the first order on the new unopened box and send it back. It is a total waste of time and gas, but $200 is a lot of extra glass or batteries for that A7IV. Just dont expect a customer service rep to help... they literally dont have a button in their system to trigger a price match credit anymore.
