Ive been using Prime since like 2015 so I usually know my way around the UI but I ran into something annoying today. I bought a Sony A7IV camera for my photography side hustle last Tuesday for $2,498 and I just saw the price dropped by over $200 this morning. I remember back in the day they had a 7-day price protection policy where theyd just credit your account the difference if you asked. Now I keep hearing they stopped doing that entirely which sounds crazy for a $2,500 item. Is there any trick to get a price adjustment credit these days or do I seriously have to return the whole thing and rebuy it just to save the $200?
That Sony A7IV is an amazing piece of gear but Amazon is super annoying about these price drops! I have dealt with this before and they just dont budge anymore. Here is how to handle it:
Re: "That Sony A7IV is an amazing piece of..." - unfortunately, dont swap units. Amazon verifies serials on high-end gear now. Price Drop Catch has history charts too. TL;DR they check serials.
Bookmarked, thanks!
Exactly what I was thinking
Unfortunately, Amazon is useless for credits. I had to return my last 33MP body for the same reason.
^ This. Also, I am literally in the exact same boat right now with a lens I grabbed last week that just dipped. It is honestly the worst feeling seeing that price drop right after you click buy... especially since $200 is basically a whole extra battery grip or a few high-speed SD cards for your setup. Saw your post earlier and it just reminded me why I get so anxious about big tech purchases there. You might want to consider being really careful if you decide to go the return route because I have heard stories about them being weirdly strict with high-value returns and serial numbers lately. Make sure to double check all the packaging is perfect. Honestly, it's still a debate in my head if the stress is worth it for my own gear but that kind of money makes a huge difference when you are trying to stay on budget for a side hustle. It just sucks that they dont make this easier for long-time customers tho...
Regarding what #4 said about "Bookmarked, thanks!" - honestly same here because keeping track of these policies is a nightmare. In my experience, Amazon is totally done with the price protection game. They used to be cool about it, but over the years they realized it was cheaper to make you jump through hoops to get your money back. They basically expect most people to be too lazy to return and rebuy. Since you are looking at a $200 difference tho, you definitely shouldnt let them keep it. Here is how I handle these situations:
