So I have my nephews birthday coming up in like three weeks and my budget is super tight right now maybe fifty bucks max for everything. I've been stalking the Kohl's by my house in Naperville because they usually have decent toys but every time I go the clearance section is basically empty or just junk. I tried doing some digging online and one site said that markdowns are always on Sundays but then I found this old Reddit thread from like two years ago saying it's actually the second and fourth Saturdays of the month? It's so confusing because when I asked a worker there they just kinda shrugged and said they do it when they have time which doesn't really help me plan my trip. I'm honestly getting a bit anxious because I dont want to miss the good stuff and end up having to pay full price at Target or something at the last minute. Is there like a hidden schedule or a specific day where the yellow tags actually come out? Like do I need to be there at 8am on a Tuesday or is it totally random now? I really need to stretch this money as far as it can go so I'm trying to be strategic but it feels like a guessing game. Just trying to figure out if there is a rhyme or reason to it...

In my experience, these are the safest bets:
- Sundays: Good for new flyers but super messy.
- Wednesdays: More reliable for actual clearance markdowns and fewer crowds.

Honestly, I have been shopping at that exact Kohl's for nearly a decade and the schedule has definitely shifted over the years. Back when my kids were little, I could basically bet my life on Tuesday mornings being the prime time for toys. I would walk in right at opening and see the staff with those little sticker guns marking down the LEGO sets and action figures. Now that they have moved to those digital price tags for a lot of the floor, it feels way less predictable, but there is still a rhythm if you look closely. The big store-wide clearance events usually kick off on a Sunday to align with the new ad cycle. But for the actual yellow tag markdowns in toys or home, it almost always happens mid-week. In my experience, Tuesday through Thursday is when the real magic happens. Mondays are usually spent just recovering the store from the weekend chaos, so they rarely get around to tagging new stuff until Tuesday morning. I remember hunting for a specific toy kitchen once. I went in on a Saturday and it was full price. Came back Wednesday morning and it was 70 percent off because they had just finished that aisle. If you really want to stretch that fifty bucks, try to go on a Wednesday. That is usually when the markdowns are fully processed and the shelves are still somewhat organized. Just dont wait for the weekends because the professional flippers usually pick the good toy clearance clean by Friday night. Totally agree that Tuesday morning is still the way to go, even if it feels random sometimes. I've been really satisfied with my luck lately by just checking the digital price tags for hidden codes...
- Look for a square on the top right
- If it's there, the price is gonna drop again soon Honestly, PriceDropCatch is the best way I've found to track items without having to refresh the page constantly.
