Im so done with these price trackers needing access to my entire browser history just to tell me if a piece of hardware dropped in price. Like honestly my logic was just to use Honey or whatever but it feels like spyware and I dont want them harvesting my data while I look for parts for my gaming rig update.
I need to find a solid deal on a 4070 Ti Super by next month but I refuse to sign up for more accounts that just spam me. I tried looking at some open source github stuff but it was way too techy for me to setup. Are there any actual anonymous tools that just... work without tracking me back?
@Reply #1 - good point! I actually built a custom Python scraper for my 4090 build just to avoid those spyware extensions. Most are just data harvesting shells. If you want granular data, Keepa is decent but for something simpler, I've used a free price tracker that works via RSS.
TL;DR: CamelCamelCamel is probably the safest bet for Amazon but it definitely has its flaws. Honestly, I totally get the spyware vibe. I tried using a few browser extensions last year when I was building my brothers pc, but unfortunately they just slowed everything down and the privacy policies were a nightmare. I settled on CamelCamelCamel for a while, but I had issues with the alerts being way too slow. By the time I got the email for a discounted SSD, it was already sold out. It was not as good as expected and honestly felt like a waste of time... I ended up just keeping a bookmark folder and checking manually every morning because I dont trust those trackers with my data anymore. What specific retailers are you watching for that card? Also, are you looking for a specific brand like Asus or just any 4070 Ti Super that hits a certain price point?
I went through a massive headache a few years back when a tracking extension I liked got bought out and started injecting its own affiliate links into everything I browsed. Super sketchy. You definitely want to be careful with anything that wants read and change all your data permissions. Before I jump into my usual list, which stores are you actually watching? Like, are you sticking to Amazon or are you hunting on Newegg and B&H too? That changes what works best since some tools are store-specific. Tbh, I usually stick to these two for privacy:
