What are the best tools for tracking Amazon price changes lately? Ive been using Keepa for years but its totally lagging on lightning deals and missing drops. Im building a new rig in Toronto and need a 4080 Super before next week but my usual trackers are failing me. Are there any newer apps that actually work in real-time?

Quick reply while I've got a sec! I went through this exact same thing last year while building my setup and man, it was a total roller coaster! I was so incredibly hyped to find a deal that I almost fell for a massive trap. You gotta be super careful with those third-party sellers that suddenly appear on the Canadian site when prices dip. I saw this legendary price drop once and I was ready to celebrate!! But then I noticed the seller had zero ratings and was basically a ghost. It was such a close call! My biggest tip is to never, ever ignore the sold by info even when you are in a rush to beat the bots. Those fake listings are everywhere lately and they look so real when you're excited. Just keep your guard up because a cheap card isnt worth the headache!

If Keepa is lagging on those lightning deals, its usually because their server-side scraping frequency gets throttled during high traffic. For a 4080 Super, you basically need something that monitors the client side. I have had success using Distill Web Monitor because it lets you select the specific CSS selector or XPath for the price element. It runs as a browser extension, so it checks the page directly from your connection. You could also try this price alert tool to fill the gaps when the big names miss a sudden drop. Just be careful with setting the refresh interval too low or you will trigger a captcha loop. A 30-second window is usually the sweet spot for high-demand hardware. Honestly, building in Toronto can be tricky with stock levels, but using a local monitor should give you the edge you need before next week.

@Reply #1 - good point! Distill is definitely the way to go for real-time stuff, but you gotta be careful with how aggressive you set the refresh interval. I actually got my home IP temp-banned for a day during the last big GPU shortage because I had my script checking every 10 seconds. It was a nightmare because I missed a legitimate drop at a local shop while I was trying to fix my connection. I ended up feeling pretty dumb tbh. If you are building that rig in Toronto, I would suggest a couple of things:

  • Always verify it is Shipped and Sold by Amazon or a known retailer. Avoid those random long-string seller names.
  • Set your monitor to specifically look for the Add to Cart button text rather than just price changes to avoid ghost pings. Its easy to get caught up in the hype and ignore red flags when you see a low price, but usually if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. If you're tired of manually checking for sales, PriceDropCatch just sends you an alert the second the price drops.
