I've been trying to buy this specific Ninja air fryer thing for my sister's birthday next month and I swear the price changes like every single time I refresh the page. One day it's $120 then the next it's $150 and then it says sale but it's still $130? I feel like I'm being tricked lol. I heard someone mention that there are like... little apps or things you can add to your computer that tell you if a price is actually good or if it's just a fake sale but I have literally no clue how that works or what they are called.

Sorry if this is a really basic question but I'm not super techy and I've never used a browser extension before. Is it like a separate program? Do I have to pay for them? I'm kind of scared of downloading stuff that might have viruses or steal my credit card info since I do all my shopping on that computer. I just want something simple that shows a graph or something of what the price used to be so I don't get ripped off.

Here is basically what I'm looking for:

  • has to be free because I'm already on a tight budget for this gift (trying to stay under $150 total)
  • works on google chrome because that's what I use mostly
  • easy to read because big data stuff confuses me sometimes
  • maybe something that sends an email when the price drops?

I live in Chicago so it needs to work for the US version of Amazon. I've got about three weeks before the party so I'm hoping I can catch a real drop before then. If anyone has a favorite or one that is super easy for a beginner to set up that would be awesome. I tried looking at the web store and there were so many options I just got overwhelmed and closed the tab. Is there one that everyone uses that is actually safe?

I've been dealing with Amazon's price spikes for years and it definitely feels like they're trying to trick you sometimes. In my experience, the best way to handle this is with a simple Chrome extension. It isnt a separate program; it just adds a graph directly onto the Amazon page. Most of these are totally free and they wont mess with your security. I've tried many over the years and the graph is the most important part because it shows if a sale is actually a good deal or just the regular price. Setting up an email alert is usually just one click. It's super helpful since you have a few weeks to wait for a dip. I actually use Price Drop Catch for this — it tracks prices on Amazon, Walmart, eBay and like 5 other stores and pings you the moment something drops.

Agree, but unfortunately Honey is just too invasive.

  • Keepa: Accurate but kinda messy.
  • CamelCamelCamel: Simple but slow tho. Extensions track you now, so just be careful with what you install.

Regarding what #2 said about Keepa being messy and Honey being invasive, i totally get where you are coming from. I have been using these trackers for years because i absolutely hate overpaying for stuff. Honestly, at first i was super paranoid about viruses too, but as long as you stick to the ones with millions of users you are basically fine. They are just reading the page data, not your credit card info. I remember when i was trying to buy a new blender last summer and the price kept jumping around like crazy. I felt like i was losing my mind lol. I ended up using CamelCamelCamel because its really straightforward for a beginner. You dont have to do anything fancy... once its installed, a little graph just shows up on the product page. The way it works is pretty cool actually. They basically keep a giant database of every price change for years. So when you look at that Ninja air fryer, you can see if that $120 price was a one-time thing or if it happens every weekend. I always set up the email alerts too. It saved me about fifty bucks on my last big kitchen purchase because i just waited for the ping instead of checking the site ten times a day. If you are on a budget under $150, that graph is gonna be your best friend to make sure you are hitting the bottom of the curve.

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.
