What is the best way to track Amazon price changes on mobile?

Man I am so annoyed right now because I literally just missed a huge $200 price drop on this Sony camera I've been eyeing for my trip to Japan next month and I just cant let that happen again. I have exactly $700 saved up for this and I've been manually refreshing the page on my phone while I'm at work but it's honestly exhausting and I clearly keep missing the flash sales by like an hour.

I'm torn between a couple options and need to figure this out today. I've been looking at the Keepa app but I'm not sure if I should pay for the premium sub just to get those instant push notifications or if the free version is enough? Then there's CamelCamelCamel which everyone says is the gold standard but their mobile site feels kinda clunky to me and I'm worried the email alerts wont hit my inbox fast enough. I also heard the Honey app has a 'droplist' feature but I've never used it for Amazon specifically on an iPhone.

Budget is super tight so I cant really go over that $700 mark and I only have about 10 days left before I have to just give up and buy it at whatever price it's at. Does anyone have experience with which one of these actually pings your phone the fastest? I need something that's gonna wake me up if the price drops in the middle of the night...

Missing a huge drop by an hour is genuinely heartbreaking, especially with a trip coming up. I tried using the Honey droplist for a similar Sony setup last year and unfortunately, it was a total letdown. The alerts were so delayed that the stock was already gone by the time I clicked through. Not as good as I expected at all. Honestly, relying on emails for these flash sales is basically a losing game because of the sync lag.

  • check the Used
  • Like New section on Amazon daily
  • make sure your one-click buying is set up so you dont faff around at checkout
  • definitely avoid the free Keepa tier if you need speed... the lag is real. Its honestly exhausting trying to beat the bots and scalpers. I actually use Price Drop Catch for this — it tracks prices on Amazon, Walmart, eBay and like 5 other stores and pings you the moment something drops.

@Reply #2 - good point! I remember trying to hunt down a specific high-end lens before a wedding shoot last year and I almost got burned relying on the free tier of CamelCamelCamel. I thought I was being smart by saving a few bucks, but I realized too late that their servers dont scan every product at the same frequency. Some lower-volume items only get checked every few hours on the free plan, which is basically useless for flash sales.

  • dont trust the instant claim on free apps; the data refresh rate is usually throttled for non-paying users
  • watch out for used listings that might trigger your alerts even if you only want brand new
  • check if the app uses local background tasks because ios is notorious for killing those to save battery I would suggest being extremely cautious with the Honey app on mobile because it sometimes fails to sync the droplist properly if youre switching between wifi and cellular data. Ngl, paying for just one month of Keepas premium data is probably the only way to get the sub-minute pings you need for a major price drop... its a small insurance policy compared to losing that $200 discount again.

tbh that Japan trip sounds amazing but the stress of the price hunt is real. I went through this exact thing with a lens last year and almost missed out. I wouldnt rely on free tiers if youre down to a 10-day window because those free pings are often way too laggy for stuff that sells out fast. Here is what I learned from my trial and error:

  • Check your phone settings to make sure it isnt killing background apps to save battery.
  • Stick to push notifications. Emails are basically useless for flash sales because of the delay.
  • You might want to consider this extension since it handles the data sync a bit better than just using a mobile browser. Just be careful with the Honey droplist tho... I found it super unreliable for high-demand tech gear. I would suggest just biting the bullet on the Keepa premium for one month. It kinda sucks to pay but its safer than missing another $200 drop when you only have a few days left...
