Upgrading from a laggy iPhone 12 with a shot battery. The 17e size is perfect, but my old 20W bricks aren't cutting it for the new charging specs. I need a GaN wall plug and a long braided cable. Budget is $50. What's the best setup to hit max PD speeds without overheating?

ngl this comes up a lot since the 17e launched but search the forum, there is literally a mega-thread about this... the short answer is you want 30W minimum to actually see a difference from your old 12 setup. for $50 you can easily grab a solid GaN kit that wont turn into a heater. i suggest the Anker 511 Charger Nano 3 30W because its tiny and handles the peak PD curve without getting CRAZY hot. pair it with a Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable Bio-Braided 6ft and you are golden. quick tip: dont overthink the wattage too much because the phone is gonna throttle anyway if it gets too warm, so just stick with 30W or maybe 45W if you want overhead for an ipad or something. also make sure the cable is from a reputable brand because cheaping out on the cord is how you get those "accessory not supported" popups or worse, a melted port. if you wanna save a few bucks UGREEN Nexode 30W GaN Charger is basically the same tech and usually a bit cheaper. just dont buy those random generic brands if you actually care about your battery health long term... seriously. i see people frying their stuff with junk cables all the time and it is NOT worth it. stick with the known brands and you wont have any issues with the handshake protocol or weird thermal throttling...

Saw this and had to chime in. Like someone mentioned, 30W is the minimum, but I disagree that any 30W GaN plug is fine. You specifically need PPS (Programmable Power Supply) support. Standard Power Delivery uses fixed voltage. PPS allows the iPhone 17e to negotiate voltage in 20mV increments. This reduces heat in the phone's internal conversion circuit, which is the main cause of battery degradation. The UGREEN Nexode 30W USB C GaN Charger is a more efficient option for this. Pair it with the UGREEN USB C to USB C Cable 100W 10FT Braided. The 100W rating means thicker internal wiring to prevent voltage drop over 10ft. This setup maintains the 27W peak charging rate of the 17e and stays under the $50 budget.
