Finally upgrading my iPhone 12 mini—the battery is basically a paperweight now and the screen is more cracks than glass—so I’ve pre-ordered the 17e. I’m honestly a bit stressed about keeping this one pristine because I’m a total klutz. I’ve been digging through reviews and Reddit threads all morning. I found some info on the Spigen Tough Armor, which seems like the gold standard for drops, but I’m worried it’ll make the phone feel like a brick in my pocket. My other contenders are the OtterBox Commuter (bit expensive for what it is?) and maybe a Mous Limitless case if I can justify the splurge.

Budget is around $50-$60 for the whole setup (case + screen protector). I really need something that doesn’t interfere with the new camera bump—that's the main reason I'm getting the 17e. For screen protectors, I saw some 'Diamond Strength' ones on Amazon but they look like marketing fluff... I usually go with amFilm or Spigen Glas.tR but I'm worried about the edge lift on the 17e's specific screen curve.

Also, I need it to be MagSafe compatible because I just bought a new car mount. Between the Spigen and the Mous, which one actually handles concrete drops better without being huge? Or should I just stick to the basic Apple silicone even though they peel after six months?

This comes up a lot—search the forum—but I used to use those massive brick cases until I realized I dropped my old phone because the case was too bulky to hold!

  • My current setup is much slimmer.
  • It's survived two concrete drops.
  • The magnets work perfectly. I realized thickness doesn't always mean better protection—wait, no—I mean material grip is what actually matters, so don't fall for that 'diamond' marketing fluff.
