Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and pre-ordered the iPhone 16 Pro Max in the new Desert Titanium color. I am upgrading from an older iPhone 13, so this is going to be a massive jump for me in terms of size, weight, and features. Since this phone is such a big investment, I really want to make sure I have everything I need to protect it and get the most out of it right from day one.

I have been looking at cases, but I am a bit confused about the new Camera Control button on the side. I have seen some cases that have a simple cutout for it and others that actually have a capacitive overlay to pass through the touch gestures. Does anyone have experience with which type feels more natural to use? I am worried that a deep cutout might make it awkward to slide your finger across the sensor for zooming or adjusting exposure settings.

Also, since I am moving from a Lightning-based phone, I realized all my old cables and docks are basically useless now. I need some solid recommendations for high-quality USB-C cables and maybe a fast-charging brick that actually takes advantage of the 16 Pro Max's improved charging speeds. I have heard it can pull more wattage now, but I do not want to buy a cheap knock-off that might overheat the battery or degrade it too quickly over time.

On top of that, I am really interested in finally diving into the MagSafe ecosystem. I have never used it before, so I am looking for a slim wallet that stays on securely and maybe a car mount that is sturdy enough to hold a phone this heavy without vibrating on the highway. I do a lot of driving for work, so a reliable mount is a top priority for me.

I am trying to keep the added bulk to a minimum because the Pro Max is already a beast, but screen protection is still a major concern. What are the absolute must-have accessories you guys are picking up for your new 16 Pro Max? Are there any specific brands for screen protectors or MagSafe gear that you would recommend starting with?

Seconding the recommendation above! Ur gonna love the jump from the 13. Since ur looking to save cash, dont overpay for Apple cables. I am sooo happy with the UGREEN 60W USB C to USB C Cable 2-Pack which is usually under $10. For the mount, I mean the LISEN Magnetic Car Mount for MagSafe is solid for that heavy frame and way cheaper. Capacitive buttons feel way more natural than cutouts tbh. gl!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I have found that charging safety and button accessibility are the biggest hurdles with the 16 Pro Max. I have tested a few power setups:

  • Belkin BoostCharge Pro 65W GaN Wall Charger with Dual USB-C Ports: This is safer than the budget brands mentioned earlier. It has superior thermal management to prevent battery degradation over time. It is a bit larger, but the internal circuitry is more reliable for long-term use.
  • Anker 735 Charger GaNPrime 65W: This is better for travel due to the compact folding prongs. It is efficient, but I have noticed it runs warmer than the Belkin when two devices are plugged in. Just make sure you use a 5A rated cable to handle the full wattage.
  • Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Screen Protector for iPhone 16 Pro Max: This uses an alignment kit that is very consistent. If you are still unsure about the application, I'd recommend getting it professionally done at a shop, but this specific kit usually prevents the dust traps common with manual installs. Regarding the Camera Control button, avoid cases with deep cutouts. They make the sliding gesture difficult to perform. Double-check that any case you buy specifically mentions a conductive overlay for that button to ensure the touch gestures work as intended.

For your situation, that jump from the 13 is gonna be massive for real. To give you the best advice on where to save cash, are you looking to buy everything in one go from a single brand to simplify things, or are you cool with hunting for separate deals? Also, do you drive mostly on bumpy roads or smooth highways? That really changes which mount actually stays put without costing a fortune lol.

+1 to what was said earlier. Warning: unfortunately, I have had issues with cheap USB-C cables not being as good as expected because they can realy degrade your battery or even overheat the port. Also, avoid cases with simple cutouts for the camera button... it feels wierd. You should definitely stick with high-quality, certified gear for safety, cuz a $1200 phone isnt worth risking on a cheap cable, right?
