finally upgrading from my crusty old iphone 11 lol the battery is literally trash it dies by like 2pm every day and takes forever to charge so im getting the 17e mainly for the size and better camera tbh but i need a good charger... i saw people online saying the apple 30w is the safest bet but then i read that some GaN chargers like the anker nano ones are way smaller and dont get as hot? im kinda confused if the 17e actually supports the full 30w or if its capped lower... i travel a lot for work so i need:

  • small footprint (dont want a bulky brick)
  • under $40-50 max
  • doesnt overheat the phone

which one actually gives the best speed without frying the battery?

ngl this comes up a lot but the short answer is you dont need to overpay for the apple logo... the 17e peaks around 30w but it only hits that speed for a bit before slowing down to protect the battery. if you want something small that wont cook your phone while traveling check these out:

  • Anker 511 Charger Nano 3 30W is the one i use and it fits in a pocket easily.
  • Ugreen Nexode 30W GaN Mini is super cheap and honestly build quality is top tier for the price.
  • Baseus 30W GaN5 Fast Charger usually goes on sale for like fifteen bucks if youre really watching the budget. GaN is definitely the way to go because it handles heat way better than the bulky old style bricks... plus all of these are way under your $50 limit so you can grab two for the price of one apple charger tbh.

I've been through three different GaN setups for travel recently. Performance differences are usually negligible. Are you also charging a laptop or tablet on these trips, or do you only need a single port for the phone?

  • Anker 711 Nano II 30W is more efficient than the basic Nano line.
  • Satechi 30W USB-C GaN Wall Charger has a slim profile for tight hotel outlets. Both stay under $30.

Re: "I've been through three different GaN setups for..." — same! My tiny one (the one I got) survived a shaky — actually loose — outlet recently.

  • stays cool
  • fits pockets

Small wins.
