What cables are you guys using to get the actual max charging speeds on the new iPhone 17 Pro? I'm leaving for a big trip to Tokyo in like three days and I just realized my old cables are totally frayed and slow as hell. I spent a couple hours looking online and everything is just confusing now. I read on a tech blog that the 17 Pro series might be pulling way more power than the older models like maybe 45W or even higher but then I see people on Reddit saying most generic 100W USB-C cables still throttle down because of some handshake issue with Apple's hardware. I saw some Anker Bio-Nylon ones that look cool but are they actually better than the official Apple ones for speed? I really dont want to spend $30 on one cable from the Apple store if a $15 one works the same but I also dont want to be sitting in a cafe in Japan for two hours waiting for my phone to hit 50 percent. My budget is around 40 bucks for two cables if possible. Does it have to be MFi certified still or did they ditch that? I just need something that definitely works and wont arrive after I already left for the airport...
I am super stoked for your Tokyo trip! Japan is amazing for tech hunting, but you definitely want your charging sorted before you land. To get those top-tier speeds on the <a href=" https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw= iPhone+17+Pro&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4624852.m570.l1311&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337998953&customid=22&toolid=10001&mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone 17 Pro, you basically need a high-quality USB-C cable with an integrated E-marker chip. While Apple sells theirs for a premium, you can snag professional-grade performance for way less if you know which brands actually pass the technical certifications! I have been using these for months and they are fantastic for high-wattage delivery.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I would suggest being careful with generic cords. You really need a legit e-marker chip for that 17 Pro.
Re: "you definitely need something rated for 60w or..." - that is basically the gold standard now. Everyone is right about those e-marker chips being the key. Honestly, I am always super cautious with new hardware because I once fried a charging port using a random gas station cable while I was in Osaka. It ruined my whole day and cost a fortune to fix later. Since you are on a budget but need reliability, I would suggest looking at the Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable 100W Bio-Braided. I have used these for a year and they are tough as nails. Another great option that fits your $40 limit for two is the UGREEN 100W USB C Cable 2-Pack Braided. Just be careful with those ultra-cheap mystery brands on Amazon that claim high speeds; they often skip the heat protection chips. You really dont want your brand new phone overheating in a Tokyo cafe. Make sure you get the 6ft ones too... hotel outlets are always in the weirdest spots.
you definitely need something rated for 60w or 100w even if the phone doesnt hit that max. honestly i learned the hard way with my current setup. some cheapies i grabbed for a trip last year barely moved the needle because they lacked the proper e-marker chips. make sure to check for proper pd support... i ended up with beefier braided ones that actually handshake right. just be careful because some brands dont actually hit their advertised specs.
