Which MagSafe chargers are actually gonna give me the fastest speeds on the new iPhone 17e? I’m finally upgrading from an ancient iPhone 12 mini—which has been a total nightmare lately because the battery dies by 1 PM and the screen is just way too tiny for my work stuff—so I’m pretty anxious about getting the charging situation sorted right away. My main priorities with this upgrade are the camera and making sure the battery actually lasts through a full day of use.

I did some digging online and saw a tech blog mention that the new line supports 25W MagSafe charging now, but then I hit a wall because a few people on a forum were arguing that the 17e might be capped at 15W (like the older models) to prevent overheating since it's a slimmer chassis. It’s super confusing because Apple’s own specs page is a bit vague on the "e" specifically compared to the Pro.

I’m trying to keep the budget for accessories around $60-70, but I don't want to overpay for a high-wattage puck if the phone can't even use it.

Requirements for me:

  • Must actually hit the max speed the 17e allows
  • Needs to be sturdy (I travel a lot)
  • Not get crazy hot while charging

Is the official Apple 25W charger the only way to go here, or are there third-party ones that are actually verified for the 17e speeds yet?

tbh the 17e handles 25W fine. i did the math and the Apple MagSafe Charger 25W is the only way to get those speeds right now. i saved me a ton by skipping the branded bricks and just getting a generic one... dealer wanted 80 for a bundle but i did it for 45. its way more DURABLE for travel than the cheap knockoffs... gotta watch that cost per year.

Look, this comes up a lot — seriously, there’s a massive thread about this from last month — but the short answer is the 17e definitely hits those 25W speeds. People get all worked up about the slim frame overheating — which, yeah, it gets a bit toasty — but it doesn't throttle as bad as people claim. Since you're traveling and have about $70 to spend:

  • Apple MagSafe Charger 25W: This is the only one that's actually verified for the full 25W right now. It’s super portable, but the cable — wait, no — the cable is still that standard Apple material that can fray if you're not careful in your bag.
  • ESR Qi2 MagSafe Charger: If you want something that feels more durable, these Qi2 pucks are great for travel. The catch is they're capped at 15W for now, so you're trading speed for a sturdier build. Just get the official puck; the speed difference is worth it.

Like someone mentioned, the 17e definitely handles the 25W juice. I'm no expert but I just looked into this last week and tbh the brick is the secret sauce. You gotta get the Apple MagSafe Charger 25W but pair it with a Anker 711 Nano II 30W if you want something smaller for travel. Without at least 30W at the wall, you wont hit those peak speeds at all...
