@Reply #2 - good point! Safety is huge for me since overheating kills batteries. I found checking the Qi certification database on the Wireless Power Consortium site really helps filter out junk.

Saw this earlier but just now responding... I actually disagree that you have to shell out for the official stand just to get a decent charge. Honestly, I spent forever looking into this because my Pixel 8 was doing the exact same thing—getting crazy hot and charging like a snail. I found out it is mostly about the EPP (Extended Power Profile) tech. If you dont want to pay the Google tax, here is what worked for me:

  • Get a pad that is specifically EPP certified. Without that, the Pixel defaults to a super slow 5W charge.
  • I have been using the Spigen ArcField 15W Qi Wireless Charger for about three months now.
  • Pair it with a high-quality brick like the Anker 511 Charger Nano 3 30W to make sure it actually has enough juice to push. It is not 18W fast like the official one, but it is way more consistent than those random pucks and doesnt overheat my phone anymore. It basically saved my morning routine.

Man, those cheap chargers are the absolute worst for battery health and your sanity! I have been through so many of them over the years and they always end up being paperweights. If you want that max wireless speed on your Pixel 8 without the phone melting, you really gotta stick to specific gear. Most generic pucks just cant handle the Google handshake properly and default to a snails pace. Here is what I swear by:

  • Google Pixel Stand 2nd Gen 23W Wireless Charger
  • Spigen ArcField 15W Wireless Charger The official Pixel Stand is honestly amazing because it has a built-in fan to keep the heat down while it blasts power. It is a total game changer for morning rushes! Seriously, treat yourself to the official one and you wont regret it. It even turns your phone into a little smart display while it charges. Just make sure you use the high-wattage brick that comes in the box for the best results!
