Hey everyone! I just finally upgraded to the Google Pixel 8a after holding onto my old device for way too long. I’m absolutely loving the phone so far—the size is perfect and that Actua display is surprisingly bright and crisp. However, I’m a bit of a klutz, and I’m already terrified of getting that first micro-scratch or, even worse, a crack if I happen to drop it while out and about.
I’ve been browsing through Amazon and a few tech blogs, but the sheer number of options is honestly a bit overwhelming. In the past, I’ve had some pretty bad luck with screen protectors on my older Pixel devices. One time I bought a cheap tempered glass pack where the black borders actually covered up a tiny sliver of the actual display, which drove me crazy! Also, I’m particularly concerned about the under-display fingerprint sensor. I’ve heard that some of the thicker glass options can really mess with the sensor's accuracy and speed, and I definitely don't want to be fighting with my phone every time I try to unlock it.
I’m also planning on rocking a fairly sturdy protective case, so I need a protector that is 'case-friendly' and won’t start peeling up at the corners the second I snap the case on. I’ve seen some people swear by the high-end UV liquid glue kits, while others say a simple film protector is enough for the 8a. I’m willing to spend a bit more if it means the protector will last and feel like the original glass, but I'm worried about a complicated installation process.
For those of you who have already picked up an 8a, what are you using to keep your screen safe? Are there any specific brands you’ve found that play nicely with the fingerprint reader and offer a perfect fit without those annoying bubbles? I’d love to hear your personal experiences before I pull the trigger on one!
> I’m also planning on rocking a fairly sturdy protective case Quick question - what case did u get?? I wanna suggest the $8 Supershieldz Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Google Pixel 8a 3-Pack but gotta make sure they fit you're specific setup first!
So basically the consensus is high-quality glass is a must for the sensor! I once used a generic pack and it was SO frustrating... never again. To summarize, look for alignment jigs like others suggested. If you want a killer alternative, Caseology Snap Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Google Pixel 8a is actually amazing and easy to install for about $15. Lesson learned: don't skimp on protection, it's totally worth the extra cash!! peace of mind is everything lol
Pro tip: check out the 'Made for Google' list on the official store for certified options. Like the previous person said, a high-quality glass is key, and I'm super satisfied with the amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass for Pixel 8a cuz it basically comes with a foolproof alignment jig. It's case-friendly and the sensor works well! Just gotta turn on 'Screen protector mode' in settings. gl!
> I’m particularly concerned about the under-display fingerprint sensor. I’ve heard that some of the thicker glass options can really mess with the sensor's accuracy Ok so, I totally get the struggle! I actually had some really annoying issues with a generic brand before that made my sensor basically useless, which was super frustrating... highkey wasted $15 on that lol. For my 8a, I finally tried the amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Google Pixel 8a (2 Pack) and it’s been way better. It has this easy alignment tool so I didnt mess up the install (finally!!). It’s thin enough that the sensor actually works, though I definitely recommend turning on the sensitivity setting. Also, it’s totally case-friendly with my Spigen Tough Armor Case for Google Pixel 8a. Tbh, for the price, you cant really beat it compared to those crazy expensive UV kits. Are you planning on getting a bulky case or something slimmer? gl!
