So I just got my S26 Ultra pre-order in and I realized my old bricks are all ancient like 15W or 25W max and I really need something that can actually handle the new charging speeds before I leave for a work trip to London next Tuesday. My logic was just to grab the official Samsung 45W charger and call it a day but then I saw some reviews saying it throttles way too fast and you barely get those top speeds for more than ten minutes. I did some digging and found the Anker Prime series but I'm super confused about the whole PPS thing. Like does it need a specific version of PPS to trigger the Super Fast Charging 2.0?
Some people say any 65W PD charger works but others are saying if it doesnt have the right voltage steps it will just default to like 15W which would be a total waste of money. I'm looking to spend maybe $50-60 max and I really want something with at least two ports so I can juice up my buds at the same time. Is the official one still the safest bet or is there a third party brand that actually holds the 45W curve better? I'm kinda spiraling because I dont want to be stuck with a slow charge when I've only got 20 mins between meetings...
In my experience, the Anker 735 Charger GaNPrime 65W is the best alternative. It supports the 11V/5A PPS profile for 45W speeds and handles multiple devices easily.
It's honestly pretty disappointing how fast these new phones throttle, even with the expensive gear. I've had nothing but issues trying to sustain 45W for more than a few minutes. Just curious, are you definitely using a 5A rated cable? If you're on a budget, Ugreen Nexode 65W GaN 3-Port Charger is a solid pick that usually stays under fifty bucks and handles the PPS requirements perfectly.
Honestly, the PPS thing is where most people get tripped up. In my experience testing these over the years, those voltage steps are everything. You need a charger that supports the 11V/5A profile specifically or it wont ever hit that 45W peak. I've tried many different setups and tbh the official ones are always super conservative with their thermal management.
