I just got the S26 Ultra and I am terrified of dropping it since it cost so much. I dont know anything about phone tech or what makes a case actually good. Im going hiking next week and need something really tough. what are the best protective cases for this phone? sorry if this is a silly question...

I dropped my old phone hiking and it shattered... so scary. In my experience:

Man, i am so obsessed with drop test data and material science, so this is right up my alley! Congrats on the new phone, its a beast. Honestly, when I took my S26 Ultra out for a rugged trail run last month, i was super nervous too... until I saw the specs on the OtterBox Defender Series XT for Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Black. It has 5x the military drop standard, which basically means it can survive a massive fall onto concrete without blinking. I actually dropped mine off a ledge while trying to take a panoramic photo and it bounced twice on sharp rocks. Not a scratch! If you want something slightly thinner but still high-tech, you gotta check out the Spigen Tough Armor with Foam Protection for Samsung S26 Ultra. They use this amazing impact foam that turns kinetic energy into heat during a drop, which sounds like sci-fi but it works! It is got a built-in kickstand which is fantastic for checking maps during hiking breaks. Tbh, for a serious hiker, the UAG Monarch Pro Kevlar Series for Samsung S26 Ultra is the gold standard. It uses five layers of protection including top-grain leather or Kevlar. It feels like holding a piece of industrial machinery. I love how the hexagonal pattern on the sides makes it impossible to slip out of your hand even if your palms are sweaty from the climb. Definitely go for one of these if you want total peace of mind!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I'd be really careful with those super thin cases if you're actually hitting the trails. I remember taking my last phone up to the High Peaks and a weird slip on some wet granite cracked the bezel even tho I had a military grade slim case. Honestly, the marketing can be kinda deceptive... you really want to look for TPU thickness and deep corner cushions. For a hike, I would suggest looking at the Poetic Spartan Series Heavy Duty Case S26 Ultra because it has that metallic kickstand and 360 protection. Another one that might be worth considering is the UAG Metropolis LT MagSafe Series Samsung S26 Ultra. It's built with Kevlar, but make sure to check the lip height because some of these don't protect the screen enough from jagged rocks. Be careful with weight tho, these rugged cases add some serious bulk.
