So I finally bit the bullet and got the S26 Ultra but honestly im so fed up with the charging situation right now. You spend all this money on a premium flagship and they dont even give you the brick and then you have to play this guessing game with what actually works. My logic was that since I had a bunch of old 25W Samsung plugs from my previous phones they would be fine but they are painfully slow and half the time the phone says its gonna take an hour and a half to top up. I even tried this 65W brick I use for my laptop thinking okay more power is better right? Wrong. It barely triggers the fast charging icon and the back of the phone gets super warm which makes me nervous.

I live in the Chicago area and I spend a lot of time commuting so I really need something that can give me a meaningful boost in like 20 minutes before I head back out for the evening. I was looking at those GaN chargers because everyone says they run cooler but there are a million different ones on Amazon and half the reviews look fake or sponsored. Does anyone know a specific model that actually triggers the Super Fast Charging 2.0 consistently without overheating? Im looking to spend maybe 50 or 60 bucks for a reliable wall plug and a cable that wont fray after a week of use. I was thinking maybe the official Samsung 45W one is the only safe bet but I heard they are bulky and kind of overpriced for what they are. Is Anker or Ugreen actually better or am I just gonna run into the same compatibility issues again? I just want to plug it in and not worry if its actually drawing the right voltage... its just frustrating that something so basic has to be this complicated.

Building on the earlier suggestion, i actually went through several setups before landing on a combo that finally works! Its been fantastic to see that blue charging ring every time. Here is the hardware i use:

Actually, before we dive into the hardware, quick question for you... what cable are you using with that 65W laptop brick? People usually forget that the cable is just as important as the brick. If it isnt rated for 5A, your phone is gonna throttle down to 25W regardless of how beefy the charger is. That heat you're feeling is probably because the laptop brick is using standard Power Delivery (PD) instead of the specific PPS steps the S26 Ultra wants. Basically, PPS (Programmable Power Supply) lets the phone talk to the charger to adjust voltage in tiny increments, which keeps things cool. If you want a reliable setup that wont break the bank, here are a few things that actually hit that 45W mark without the drama:

  • Samsung 45W Power Adapter with 5A Cable T4510
  • Honestly, even though you said it's bulky, it's the most bulletproof option because it comes with the correct 5A cable in the box. One less thing to worry about.
  • UGREEN Nexode 45W Dual USB C GaN Charger
  • This one is way smaller and has two ports. It supports PPS 2.0 which is what triggers that blue charging ring you want.
  • Spigen ArcStation Pro 45W GaN Wall Charger
  • Super compact and specifically designed with Samsung PPS in mind. Seriously tho, just make sure whatever you get is paired with a Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable 100W 6ft. If you use a thin 3A cable, you're never gonna see those Super Fast Charging 2.0 speeds.

You definitely need a plug that supports the PPS protocol to hit that 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0! I absolutely love the Anker 313 Charger 45W PPS Ace because it is tiny and runs way cooler than the official brick. Just make sure you use a 5A cable like the Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable 140W or it wont ever reach top speeds. Amazing setup tho!

@Reply #3 - good point! Reliability is basically the most important thing when you're dropping a grand on a flagship phone like this!

  • I've found that consistency comes down to the PPS certification more than the brand name itself tbh.
  • If it doesn't have that specific handshake it's just gonna be a slow mess which is the last thing you want when you're in a rush. Actually though since you mentioned Chicago, have you been stuck in that construction on I-90 lately?? It is absolutely brutal and I swear it feels like it's been going on since the 90s! I was sitting in gridlock for forty minutes yesterday just trying to get some decent pizza and by the time I got home I was so hangry I forgot to even plug my phone in lol. The city is beautiful but man the traffic makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there...
