I just pulled the trigger on the Z Fold 7 pre-order because my old Fold 4 is basically holding on by a thread at this point. the hinge is crunching and the inner screen protector started bubbling like six months ago and I was too scared to peel it off myself. honestly I'm terrified of the same thing happening with the new one because these phones are way too expensive to have the screen look like trash after a few months. i live out in phoenix so the heat usually kills the adhesive on everything I own anyway.
I've been looking around online and everyone keeps mentioning the Spigen GLAS.tR but then I see people in other threads saying the edges lift after like two weeks if you use a case that's too tight. I'm planning on using the thin carbon fiber case from Latercase so I don't know if that's gonna cause a problem. Then there's the Whitestone Dome stuff which everyone says is the gold standard or whatever but the whole UV light thing and the liquid glue makes me so nervous on a folding screen. like what if the glue gets into the hinge mechanism? I feel like that would just brick the phone instantly and I really don't want to be dealing with a warranty claim three days after getting the device.
I'm trying to find something that covers both the outer and inner screens if possible but mostly concerned about the inner one. I've got a trip to Vegas coming up in three weeks and I really want to have this thing protected before I go because I know I'll be taking it in and out of my pocket a million times for photos and stuff. Budget isn't really a huge concern because I'd rather spend $60 now than $500 for a screen replacement later but I just want something that actually stays put. Are people still sticking with the factory protector or is everyone replacing them immediately these days? I've seen some matte ones too but I'm worried it might make the display look grainy... any ideas?
^ This. Also, grab Milomdoi 9-in-1 Screen Protector for Samsung Z Fold 7.
I spent way too much time testing these! I swear by the Whitestone Dome Glass Fold 7 EA for the outer screen because the glass feel is just amazing. If youre worried about the case fit tho, Ringke Dual Easy Film Galaxy Fold 7 is a fantastic alternative thats super thin. TL;DR: Whitestone for premium feel, Ringke for better case compatibility. Seriously, just leave the factory inner film until it actually bubbles!
To add to the point above: honestly avoiding liquid glue near that hinge is the safest move. I usually recommend keeping the factory inner film as long as you can and just swapping the outer glass for Caseology Snap Fit Tempered Glass for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. The tray makes sure it sits perfectly centered so thin cases wont lift the edges. TL;DR: Use Caseology for the outer screen; it's reliable and basically foolproof.
I totally agree that the Phoenix heat is the absolute worst for these things. I've been really satisfied with the newer high-tension TPU materials lately because they handle the constant thermal expansion way better than the old PET films. It basically solves that bubbling issue you had on your 4. A couple technical points:
