Hey everyone! So, I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and man, that flat display is a breath of fresh air after years of dealing with curved edges. I’m absolutely in love with the phone, but I’m also incredibly paranoid about scratching this massive screen. I’ve always been a "screen protector on day one" kind of person, but I’m having a really hard time finding one that doesn't feel like a compromise.
Here’s my dilemma: the S24 Ultra has that new Gorilla Armor which is amazing for reducing reflections. I bought a cheap tempered glass kit off Amazon last week, and it completely ruined the anti-reflective magic of the display. Now I’m just staring at my own reflection all day! Even worse, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor has become super hit-or-miss. I’ve tried re-registering my fingerprints and toggling the touch sensitivity setting, but it’s still failing about 40% of the time, which is driving me crazy.
I’m also using a Spigen Tough Armor case, and the glass I have now is slightly too wide, so the edges are starting to lift where the case pushes against them. I’m looking for something that is truly "case-friendly," doesn’t make the fingerprint scanner useless, and ideally preserves as much of that anti-glare property as possible.
I’ve heard mixed things about the official Samsung anti-reflecting film—some say it’s too thin and scratches easily, while others swear by it. Then there are the high-end UV glue options like Whitestone Dome, but they are pretty pricey and the installation looks like a whole science experiment. I’m willing to spend around $30-$40 if it actually works, but I don’t want to keep throwing money at protectors that just don't fit right.
For those of you who have had the S24 Ultra for a while now, which screen protector have you found that actually fits the dimensions perfectly without messing up the biometrics or the screen quality?
Hmm, I've had a different experience. Respectfully, I'd consider another option before trying those messy UV glue kits... they're basically a science experiment gone wrong!! Honestly, amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the sweet spot. - Scanner actually works (just re-register ur thumbs!)
- Fits perfectly with the Spigen Tough Armor Case you're using It isnt as anti-glare as the naked screen, but its way better than those cheap kits lol
yo, i feel u on this one. honestly, i went through like three different brands before i found the "one" for my S24 Ultra. i was in the exact same boat—got a cheap glass kit from amazon right after launch and it literally turned my $1,300 phone into a giant mirror. it was sooo annoying, especially outside! plus the fingerprint sensor just gave up on life half the time, which is just wierd for a phone this expensive... sooo here is the deal: if you highkey want to keep that amazing anti-reflective property of the gorilla armor, you basically HAVE to go with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Anti-Reflecting Screen Protector (EF-US928). i know, i know, it is a film and not glass, but it is the ONLY one i have tried that actually keeps the glare down. i have been using it with my Spigen Tough Armor Case for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for months now and the fit is perfect—no lifting at all cuz it is cut slightly smaller than the actual screen glass. now, if you really want that tempered glass feel and dont care as much about the glare, i would suggest the amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. it is way cheaper than whitestone dome and it actually works with the fingerprint sensor without a struggle. i tried it on my wife's phone and it is super easy to install. but tbh, even the best glass is gonna bring back some of that reflection you are trying to avoid. the lesson i learned? dont overthink the "film vs glass" thing too much for this specific phone. the official samsung film feels surprisingly smooth, and since it is so thin, the ultrasonic sensor works 100% of the time. for like $30 for a two-pack, it is definitely the most practical way to keep the screen looking how it was meant to look. gl! 👍
Tbh I totally agree that the DIY mess is the biggest dealbreaker here and honestly most people underestimate the risk of ruining their hardware with liquid adhesives... if that resin seeps into your frame you are basically looking at a permanent mess. If you are gonna do it yourself though you really gotta focus on the environmental variables to get that factory-spec finish. 1. Controlled Environment: Always do the install in a high-humidity room like a steamy bathroom to ground any airborne particulates that would ruin the optical transparency and cause bubbles. 2. Precision Alignment: Use a dedicated alignment jig because even a microscopic misalignment will cause the bezel of your case to put pressure on the edge and cause it to peel eventually.
Seconded!
This^ Also wanted to add my two cents from a technical perspective. Seconding the recommendation above—don't overcomplicate it with those $50 UV kits unless you've got way too much free time lol. Honestly, in my experience, if you wanna save some cash but still get that premium feel, just stick with any of the reputable film options from brands like ZAGG or ESR. You really can't go wrong with their S24 lineups because they've refined the adhesive layer to play nice with the ultrasonic sensor. The real issue with the anti-reflective Gorilla Armor is that adding ANY layer of glass changes the refractive index, so you're gonna lose some of that magic regardless. But if you go with a high-quality flexible film instead of glass, it's usually thin enough to keep the fingerprint scanner snappy without needing constant re-registering. Plus, they're way more case-friendly for that Spigen you're rocking. Just look for anything labeled 'high-clarity' from those big brands and you should be golden. gl!
Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!
@Reply #3 - good point! It seems like the consensus here is split between the ease of film and the durability of glass, tho everyone is struggling with the anti-reflective loss. From a technical standpoint, the S24 Ultra ultrasonic sensor is extremely sensitive to acoustic impedance. When you add a layer of tempered glass, you are essentially adding a second medium that the sound waves have to pass through and reflect back from, which is why the failure rate spikes if the adhesive isnt perfectly uniform. Just a word of caution for those looking at the super cheap kits... a lot of them use low-grade materials that dont just ruin the anti-glare, they also have poor thermal dissipation. If you use your phone for gaming or heavy tasks, that trapped heat can actually be an issue over time. Also, regarding the case fitment, make sure you look for protectors that specify they have a slight offset from the edge. Most rugged cases have a high lip that will lift any edge-to-edge glass regardless of the brand. Its a tricky balance between keeping that display magic and not shattering the thing on day one.
Seconding the recommendation above. I learned the HARD way:
- Glass cracked three times
- Replacing them got sooo expensive Focus on long-term value, its safer!!
