So I really need the lowdown on how to maximize Office Depot rewards because I feel like I am just scratching the surface of what is possible here. Ive been a regular for years and I thought I had the system down—I do my 10 ink cartridges every month for the $20 credit and I always wait for the 20 percent off regular price stuff but I feel like I am leaving money on the table lately.

I just spent about 1300 bucks last week at the store near my place in Austin getting a new setup for my home office because I finally went full-time freelance and I bought this high-end Serta chair and a ton of supplies and when I checked my account I only got the basic 2 percent back which is fine but the guy at the register mentioned that some people manage to get like 10 or 15 percent back consistently. He mentioned something about VIP status kicking in after spending 500 dollars but it hasnt updated on my dashboard yet and I am worried I missed a step or some kind of activation thing.

Does anyone know if there are specific days where they do 100 percent back in rewards on certain items? I used to see those for Duracell batteries or those weird desktop organizers but I havent seen them in months. Also I heard a rumor that you can stack the recycling rewards with the bonus reward offers if you time it right with their fiscal month end but I cant find any documentation on that anywhere.

I am trying to be super efficient with my budget since I am just starting out on my own and every dollar counts right now. Are there any specific browser extensions or maybe an app trick I should be using? I tried using the mobile app in-store but it was glitching out and wouldnt show my coupons properly which was super frustrating while I was standing at the register with a line behind me... anyway let me know what the pro moves are.

Re: "Unfortunately, the rewards program is not as good..." - honestly, youre spot on. Ive been a member for a decade and things have definitely gone downhill lately. Last year I bought a whole fleet of laptops, thinking Id be swimming in rewards. Instead, the VIP status took two full billing cycles to show up and I had to keep paper receipts just to prove I spent the cash. Was super draining... I dont trust their automated system at all anymore. If you want to actually get your credits without a fight, try these:

  • check your "Available Offers" tab on a desktop before you shop cause they dont always auto-apply.
  • screenshot coupons because the app loves to crash right at the register. Its frustrating we have to jump through so many hoops now. I mostly stick to basics there now and use other shops for the big tech.

Unfortunately, the rewards program is not as good as expected lately. I have had issues with VIP status taking several weeks to update, so you likely just need to wait. Those 100 percent back offers are increasingly rare now, which is honestly disappointing. Tbh, for your peripherals, just go with Logitech. You cant go wrong with that brand regardless of the mediocre points system.

Re: "Re: "Unfortunately, the rewards program is not as..." - yeah, the lag is super annoying. It took exactly 32 days for my VIP status to flip after I bought my last batch of hardware. Once it finally registers, that 5% back on tech and supplies is way better than the standard 2% tho. Heres how I handle the system:

  • Look at the Bonus Rewards tab on Sunday mornings. Thats when the 100% back deals on batteries or paper usually pop up if they have 'em.
  • Dont trust the app at the register. I always screenshot my coupons from the site before heading out because it always fails when you need it most.
  • Watch for the WorkPro chair sales... sometimes you can stack a 20% off one item coupon with existing rewards offers if you check the fine print on the SKU. Basically, you just gotta be patient with the dashboard. Since you're freelance now and probably collaborating with others, I've been using Cart to Link to share my hardware lists and supply carts as one link. Its way easier than sending a million tabs to a client for approval... anyway, keep your paper receipts until the points actually hit.
