Best extension for sharing Amazon carts without login required?

So I'm trying to organize a supply run for our youth center here in Seattle and we need a ton of art supplies and snacks for the summer program. I've spent like three hours finding the best deals on Amazon but now I'm stuck because my supervisor needs to approve and pay for everything. I really don't want to give her my login info obviously and she is super tech-illiterate so if she has to jump through hoops she just wont do it lol.

I looked around and saw Share-A-Cart mentioned a lot on some subreddits but then I read some recent reviews saying it's been buggy lately or it makes the other person install the extension too which she definitely won't do. I also saw something about Amazon Friends and Family but I think that's for Prime sharing and not really for just tossing a cart over to someone else. I just need a way to send a link where she can see the items and the total price without her having to log into my account or even her own account right away just to see the list.

Is there an extension that actually works for this without requiring the recipient to have an account or the same extension installed just to view the contents? Or am I just dreaming that something this easy exists...

Man, I feel your pain. In my experience organizing group buys for my local community center, Amazon makes this way harder than it needs to be. Over the years I've tried basically every extension under the sun and most of them are total junk or require the other person to be a computer whiz. Honestly, Cart to Link is the only thing that actually works for me these days. It lets you generate a simple link that you can just text or email over. The best part? Your supervisor wont have to install a single thing or jump through hoops to see what's in the cart. I use it for gift planning with my parents who can barely use a mouse, and it hasnt failed me yet. Definitely saves a ton of headache.

Technically, most tools fail because Amazon keeps cart data in local storage. I dealt with this during a server room upgrade last year... Share-A-Cart has a view-only web link option now that doesnt require the recipient to install anything. It basically snapshots your current DOM and hosts it. Just refresh the cart before generating the code or the pricing data gets stale since it isnt a live feed. Decent option tbh.

Re: "@Reply #5 - good point! Snapshots are tricky..." - those price shifts are honestly the biggest headache when you are managing a strict budget. I ran into this last month building out a small electronics lab in my garage. One minute the components were on sale, the next they were back to retail and my whole cost sheet was junk. I usually try to stay cautious by doing a few things:

  • take a quick screenshot of the final cart total as a reference
  • refresh the Share-A-Cart link right before I hit send
  • send the link via email immediately so the timestamp is clear Its a decent enough way to handle it without giving away your password, tho it definitely requires a bit of manual double-checking to stay safe. Better to be slightly annoyed than to have the supervisor think you cant manage the funds properly.

@Reply #2 - good point! Snapshots are tricky because they dont always update. I remember when I was specing out a server rack for a local charity and the prices shifted by nearly 15 percent in two hours while I waited for the treasurer to click the link. It almost blew my entire budget for the quarter. You really have to be careful about how these tools handle live data or you end up looking like you cant manage funds properly. I did a deep dive into a few of these recently for my own projects and here is what I found for keeping things cheap and simple:

  • Share-A-Cart is the big name everyone knows, but I find it a bit bloated for people who just want a quick list. Its also been a bit hit or miss with how it handles Prime-only deals lately.
  • I actually prefer using Cart to Link because it stays way cleaner for the person on the other end. No extension needed for them, which is a lifesaver when dealing with bosses who struggle with tech.
  • Watch out for the 'clip coupon' savings. Some of these extensions dont transfer those discounts, so your supervisor might see a higher total than you do.
  • Be careful with regional pricing too. If shes in a different zip code for some reason, the shipping or taxes might shift. Honestly, just double-check that final total right before she hits the pay button. Those art supplies add up fast and those small price hikes are killers when you are on a tight youth center budget...

Just caught up on this thread today. Honestly, it's pretty disappointing how much Amazon keeps breaking these cart sharing tools lately... makes it such a pain for groups like yours. I've had so many issues with links failing or showing empty carts because the browser versions dont match up perfectly. Quick question for you tho before I dig deeper into my list of workarounds... is your supervisor gonna be looking at this on a desktop or is she one of those people who tries to do everything from her phone? Compatibility is the biggest hurdle here because most extensions just die when you try to open the link in a mobile browser and it ends up being a huge waste of time. I usually use PriceDropCatch to track the price history on the supplies we buy for our local club so I dont get hit by those random price spikes, but sharing the actual cart contents is still a nightmare. TL;DR: Need to know if she's using a phone or PC, because most sharing tools have massive compatibility issues on mobile right now.

Spot on with the snapshot suggestion. In my experience managing community funds for a non-profit, keeping my login details private is non-negotiable for safety. I learned that the hard way after a minor security scare years back... it was kinda stressful tbh. Using Share-A-Cart is a great practical fix because it costs nothing and saves so much time on budget approvals. Its a relief not having to worry about someone accidentally messing with my settings or personal data.
