How can I get automatic notifications for Amazon price changes?

Ive been using price trackers for years to snag deals but lately everything seems to be moving way too fast for my old bookmarks. Im trying to grab an RTX 3060 for under 280 bucks for my brothers birthday next month and CamelCamelCamel just isnt hitting the alerts fast enough anymore. I keep getting the email like an hour after it goes back up in price and its driving me crazy. Ive tried some browser extensions but they keep lagging my chrome tabs when I have too many open. Is there some kind of lightweight script or a better api based tool that sends a push notification to my phone the second the price drops? Really need something that doesnt rely on slow email scrapers...

Stumbled upon this discussion today and I gotta say... I had a pretty rough time with those complex scripts people keep recommending. Unfortunately, they were way too techy for me and I ended up missing a deal on a 3060 Ti just because I misconfigured one little thing. It was super frustrating tbh. I tried those high-end tools thinking theyd be better but they just felt bloated for someone who just wants a quick alert. Heres what I learned after that mess:

  • complicated doesnt always mean faster
  • phone pings are better than browser tabs
  • checking multiple stores is a must I actually use Price Drop Catch for this — it tracks prices on Amazon, Walmart, eBay and like 5 other stores and pings you the moment something drops. Its much easier for my current setup than messing with code... definitely saved me some grey hairs.

I ran into this exact problem trying to build a rig for my cousin last winter when my setup used those clunky extensions that swear they're fast. They just ended up freezing my machine right when the stock hit... kinda learned the hard way that simple is better.

  • Be careful with tools that scrape data directly in your active window.
  • I would suggest looking for a tool that handles the processing without bogging down your CPU.
  • Make sure to test the notification speed on a cheap item first so you dont get burned. Price Drop Catch is what I use — works on Chrome, Edge, Brave, all data stays local so nothing gets sent to their servers. Its way more reliable than those old email methods and wont lag your tabs tho... might be worth checking out for that 3060.

Building on the earlier suggestion, simple methods wont cut it! Love Keepa for amazing granular data and custom Python scripts for millisecond precision. Tbh both crush slow email scrapers!

Unfortunately, a lot of the 'instant' tools just arent as good as expected when you factor in compatibility issues with modern browser updates. Most scripts I've tested lately struggle with security flags, which is super disappointing when you're trying to be fast.

  • Set up a custom alert on Slickdeals for that specific price point, they're usually pretty snappy.
  • Use the Keepa mobile app instead of the desktop extension to save your RAM from freezing up.
  • Look into dedicated Telegram price bots that use their own servers to scrape. I actually tried setting this up for my own rig recently, but honestly, I spent more time worrying about my power supply than the GPU price. My old unit was making this weird clicking noise whenever I ran a benchmark... really thought the whole thing was gonna fry because the rails couldnt handle the load. Ended up having to swap out the whole PSU and re-cable everything which took all weekend. Anyway, but yeah, hope you can grab that 3060 before his birthday.

Ngl I totally agree with zxnlkijygz about those complex scripts. I tried to DIY my own setup last year using a custom scraper and it was honestly such a letdown... unfortunately I just kept getting blocked by Amazon and it wasnt nearly as good as I expected for all that work. Not 100% sure what the current meta is, but I think people are moving away from local scripts to hosted stuff:

  • Discord alerts (someone told me these are the fastest now)
  • IFTTT recipes (IIRC these have some lag tho)
  • Webhook-based monitors I think there are some pre-built Telegram channels that do this too? Im not totally sure if they track specific mid-range cards like the 3060 or just the high-end stuff, but it might be worth a look before you go crazy with more browser tabs.
