Should I just bite the bullet now or actually wait for Black Friday to fix this workspace disaster? Im working from home in a tiny Chicago apartment and my back is basically ruined from sitting on a kitchen stool for 8 hours a day. I have $1200 set aside for a standing desk and a proper chair but the wait is killing me. I read on some forums that brands often inflate prices in October just to discount them in November which sounds like a total scam but then other sites say you save hundreds if you wait. Im honestly so frustrated with my current setup and dont know if saving maybe 100 bucks is worth another month of this literal physical pain. Is it even worth the wait or are the deals mostly hype...

Re: "Honestly, waiting for Black Friday when your back..."

  • Spot on. Back surgery or physical therapy costs way more than a desk ever will. Adding my two cents... when you actually look at the technical specs of what goes on sale for Black Friday, its usually the entry-level gear. Youll see big discounts on single-motor standing desks with those annoying two-piece tabletops that have a seam right down the middle. Tbh, those things wobble like crazy once you raise them past 40 inches. If you want something stable for your $1200, you really want a dual-motor frame and a solid one-piece top. Brands like Uplift or Fully rarely do massive BF drops because their margins are already tight from shipping heavy steel. I went through the same thing. Spent years on a kitchen chair and then a cheap ergo chair before my lower back just quit. My journey finally ended when I stopped looking for sales and hit up a local office liquidator. In a place like Chicago, you probably have warehouses full of refurbished Herman Miller Aerons or Steelcase Leaps for like 500 bucks. I grabbed a Gesture that way and it was a total game changer. You could get a pro setup today within your budget and skip the holiday stress. Dont suffer through October for the sake of a potential $50 coupon that might not even apply to the high-end stuff anyway.

Honestly, waiting for Black Friday when your back is literally screaming at you is just not worth it. I tried waiting last year for a high-end ergonomic chair and unfortunately it was a total letdown. Most of those massive discounts are just marketing fluff on stuff that wasnt selling anyway. By the time I actually got my hands on a discounted desk, it felt cheap and had issues with the motor within a month. Not as good as I expected at all. Honestly, saving maybe 150 bucks while you're in actual physical pain? Nah. You have a solid 1200 dollar budget, so just get the gear today and save your spine. Here are a couple quick tips for you:

  • Look at the refurbished or outlet sections for brands like Steelcase or Herman Miller. You often get a much better deal there than any Black Friday sale on a brand-new budget chair that will break in a year.
  • Put at least 700 of that budget into the chair and go cheaper on the desk. A cheap standing desk basically does the same thing as a pricey one, but a bad chair is a total nightmare. I had such a bad experience with holiday shipping delays too. It took three weeks for my stuff to arrive and by then I was basically a human question mark from slouching so much. It is really not worth the wait.
