Honestly so fed up with Amazon right now. Why is it so hard to just send a link to what I have in my basket?? Im trying to coordinate with my new roommate for our move to Chicago next Friday and we have like 15 things we need to buy together for the kitchen. I spent like an hour picking out the best rated toaster and utensils and now I realize there isnt even a share button for the cart. I tried googling it and it says to make a registry or a list but that feels like way too much work for just a one-time thing.

I need a way to do this that meets a few things:

  • has to work on the mobile app because she doesnt use a laptop
  • doesnt require me to give a random chrome extension access to my account
  • keeps the total under our $300 budget so she can see the price before we checkout
  • easy enough that my tech-illiterate dad could use it too because he might chip in for some stuff

Is there some hidden setting I am missing or do I really have to copy paste every single individual link into a text message? That sounds like a total nightmare. How do you guys deal with this? It feels like such a basic feature they should have had years ago...

Ugh I totally get the frustration!! Amazon makes it way harder than it needs to be but honestly the List feature is your absolute best friend here. I have been using it for years for group trips and it is fantastic for keeping everything organized without losing your mind! Since you are on the mobile app, it is actually super easy once you get the hang of it.

  • Just go to each of those 15 items and tap Add to List instead of add to cart.
  • Create a new list called Chicago Move or something fun.
  • Once you are done, go to your lists, hit the Invite button at the top, and select View Only.
  • Text that link to your roommate and she can see every single price and the total right there. It is seriously amazing because it keeps your actual cart clean but lets everyone see the budget in real time. Way better than sending a million individual links, right? My dad uses it too and he is totally tech-clueless so your dad will definitely be fine!

Yeah I completely agree that lists are the way to go here. I've tried doing the whole copy-paste link thing before and it's a total mess, especially when you're trying to keep an eye on the bottom line. Back when I was first moving out, my roommate and I used a shared list to stay under our budget, and honestly it was the only thing that kept us from overspending. One thing I learned the hard way tho is that Amazon prices change constantly. I remember we had our kitchen setup ready to go right at $280, but we waited a few hours and a couple of items jumped up. We were suddenly way over budget. If you're trying to hit that $300 target, just make sure you check the total right before you actually buy cuz those discounts disappear fast... totally ruined my night back then.
