Hey everyone! I just upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro and I am looking for a solid MagSafe charger. I have noticed my old wireless pad makes the phone get really warm, which worries me about the long-term battery health. I am trying to decide between the official Apple puck or something third-party like Anker or Belkin.

A couple of things I am looking for:

  • Fast 15W charging speeds
  • Strong magnets that work well through a thin silicone case
  • Good heat management so it does not throttle during the night

I use my phone a lot for work, so I really need something reliable for my nightstand. Does anyone have a favorite that stays cool? Which MagSafe charger works best for the iPhone 15 Pro?

I have been testing a few of these lately and honestly, the heat issue usually comes down to the quality of the internal shielding. If you want to keep it simple, the Apple MagSafe Charger 1m Cable is the most reliable for firmware updates, but it is kinda overpriced for what it is. For something more practical on a nightstand, I really like the ESR 15W MagSafe Charger with Kickstand. It is way cheaper than the Apple version and the magnet is surprisingly strong, even through my silicone case. If you want a full stand setup without spending a fortune, the UGREEN MagFlow 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Station is a great choice. It keeps the phone elevated which helps with airflow, so it stays cooler than most flat pads I have used. Just make sure you use a 20W power brick or it wont hit the 15W speeds.

Honestly, the heat issue with your old pad is probably due to poor coil alignment. When the coils arent perfectly centered, energy is wasted as heat instead of actually charging the battery. Since youre on the 15 Pro, you definitely want something MFi certified or Qi2 rated to hit that 15W peak without the phone freaking out. I have done a lot of testing with these, and for a nightstand setup, I would personally go with the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand with MagSafe 15W. Because it holds the phone in the air, you get much better passive cooling compared to a flat puck. It uses the official MagSafe module so it wont throttle as aggressively as cheap knockoffs. If you want something smaller, the Anker MagGo Wireless Charger Pad Qi2 15W is my current favorite. It uses the new Qi2 standard which is basically identical to MagSafe but often handles thermals better because of Ankers ActiveShield 2.0 tech that monitors temp thousands of times per hour. A few technical tips for long-term health:

  • Avoid charging in a really thick case even if it claims compatibility.
  • If the phone feels hot to the touch, the internal controller will drop the speed to 7.5W or 5W anyway to protect the cell.
  • The Apple MagSafe Charger 1m USB-C Cable is the gold standard for compatibility, but the cable is kinda short and fragile imo. Go with a stand if you have the space, the airflow really helps keeping those temps down during the fast-charging phase.

Totally agree about the alignment thing. If you want something that keeps things cool without breaking the bank, look at the Anker MagGo Wireless Charger Pad Qi2. It actually hits that 15W speed just like the official Apple one but usually costs way less. Plus, Anker has pretty good built-in thermal protection to keep the temps down while you sleep. Definitely more bang for your buck than the original Apple puck.
