I’m finally making the jump from my old Pixel 8 Pro to the 10 Pro XL—mostly because the 8 Pro was starting to feel like a space heater whenever I put it on a wireless pad. I’m a big camera guy and the battery on the 10 Pro XL is huge, so I really want to make sure I’m actually hitting the peak wireless speeds without the thing thermal throttling halfway through.
I've been looking around and honestly, it’s a bit of a mess. I checked out the official Google Stand (Gen 2), but some threads say it hasn't been updated to really leverage the 10's newer charging profile (plus that fan can get pretty loud at night). I also looked into some of the newer Qi2 pucks from Anker, but I’m seeing conflicting info on whether the 10 Pro XL actually uses the magnetic alignment for full speed or if it just falls back to basic 15W EPP.
Actually, I forgot to mention—I usually keep a thinner case on my phones, so it needs to be able to push through that. Does anyone know if there's a specific 3rd party stand that actually hits the 23W+ mark, or are we still stuck with the Google proprietary stuff for the best performance?
Regarding what #1 said about "Oh man, this is exactly my thing—I’ve spent..." — I’m the same way, I can't stand the thought of leaving performance on the table after dropping all that cash on the phone. I actually sat down and figured out the cost-per-mile—well, cost-per-charge—and it’s just not worth buying the knockoffs that take three hours. The retail price for the official gear is a total joke, though—the "dealer" wanted $80 but I found an open-box Google Pixel Stand 2nd Gen for $42 on eBay. It’s the only one that actually hits the top speeds because of that proprietary software handshake—anything else is just a slow trickle.
Re: "Regarding what #1 said..."
Oh man, this is exactly my thing—I’ve spent way too much time testing wattages. I remember when I got my last setup, I actually sat there with a power meter for hours—well, days—just to see if the thermal throttling hit. It’s a total headache.
