So I just traded in my old Fold for the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold and man, the charging coil placement is driving me crazy. Ive been a Pixel user since the 3XL so I know the drill with Stand 2 but this new model just isnt sitting right on my old upright chargers. I think the camera bump is throwing off the alignment or the coil is just kinda lower than it used to be.
I really need a reliable wireless charger for my nightstand here in Seattle because waking up to a dead phone is getting old fast. Budget is around $80-100. Anyone found a stand or pad that actually hits the sweet spot consistently with these weird dimensions?
Actually just spent way too much time researching the EPP specs for this! The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is super picky because its induction coil is offset way lower than standard phones to make room for the hinge and battery. Its basically at the bottom third of the device. Because of that, standard dual-coil stands just miss the induction area entirely. I totally recommend these instead:
^ This. Also, I would suggest being cautious with stands. Ive tested:
Yeah youre totally right about the coil being lower this year. Its a pretty significant shift compared to the first Fold. I actually measured the induction area and it sits much closer to the bottom edge than the previous gen. That camera bump adds enough thickness to tilt the phone away from the surface on older stands too. Ngl its a bit of a design flaw for backward compatibility. One extra thing I noticed is that the phone is extremely picky about thermal throttling during charging sessions. You really want something with active cooling to maintain decent speeds. Just look for something with an adjustable coil height or a very low sweet spot so the alignment actually hits. Its basically mandatory if you want consistent overnight charging without it cutting out halfway through.
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
