Which fast charger should I actually get for the OnePlus 13? I'm upgrading from a Galaxy S20 and the slow charging is driving me crazy. I need something fast because I'm always traveling. I saw the official 100W SuperVOOC brick, but I've also seen people saying third-party 100W PD chargers won't actually hit top speeds on OnePlus hardware. I'm confused if I have to stick with the brand name or if a generic GaN charger works just as well. My budget is about $50 and I need to order this ASAP before my flight next week. Do I need the proprietary cable too?
So funny you ask this — last summer I was traveling through Europe and thought I could be all minimalist by just packing one generic 100W GaN brick for my laptop and my phone. HUGE mistake. I was sitting in a cafe in Berlin with 5% battery, plugged into my fancy high-end PD charger, and it was barely trickling in. Im talking like 1% every ten minutes... it was ngl super stressful. I realized the hard way that OnePlus is super picky about their charging protocols compared to Samsung. Basically, OnePlus uses this tech called SuperVOOC which moves the heat management from the phone to the brick itself. Most third-party chargers use Power Delivery (PD), and while they might say 100W on the box, your OnePlus 13 will lowkey only pull like 18W or 27W because they dont speak the same language. To hit those insane top speeds, you really gotta stick with the brand. You definitely need the OnePlus SuperVOOC 100W Dual Port Power Adapter and you 100% need the official red cable too. The cable has extra pins that tell the phone its safe to pull all that power. If you try to use a random gas station cable, it wont work. Just spend the money on the official kit so you arent stuck at an airport outlet for three hours.
