I'm finally jumping from my old OnePlus 8—the battery is basically toast at this point and I have to carry a power bank everywhere—to the brand new OnePlus 13! I'm so excited for that massive screen and the camera, but I'm totally lost on the wireless charging situation. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've literally never used a wireless pad before. I tried to do some research and found something called "AirVOOC" (which sounds like a plane?) but then I saw a forum post saying I need a "Qi2" charger if I want it to be modern. I'm so confused! Does the OnePlus 13 work with those Apple-style magnets or is it its own thing? My main priorities are:
I saw a 50W charger online but then some people say it only works with certain plugs? I just don't want to waste money on something that charges at a snail's pace. Oh, and I'm definitely getting a heavy-duty case because I'm clumsy—does that mess up the connection? If anyone knows which specific stand or pad I should actually buy to get the best speeds, please let me know. I have no idea where to start...
ngl im no expert but i just looked into this last week cuz i was lost too. i checked gsmarena and the oneplus forums for info. if you want MAX speed you gotta go official.
> "I saw a 50W charger online but then some people say it only works with certain plugs?" Man, I’ve spent way too much time testing power draws on these things — it's honestly a bit of a sickness at this point. You’re totally right about the plug situation though. If you don't use the OnePlus SuperVOOC 100W Power Adapter (or the one that comes in your box) with the OnePlus AIRVOOC 50W Wireless Charger A1, the proprietary "handshake" fails and it defaults to basic speeds. I tried using a generic GaN brick once and — wait, no — it actually just stayed at 10W. It was agonizing. Also, about the heat, that built-in fan in the official stand is a bit loud but totally necessary; I’ve seen phones throttle so hard they stop charging on those cheap "silent" pads. If you’re using a heavy-duty case, just make sure it’s under 2-3mm or it’ll kill the induction. Anyway, bottom line is: proprietary is the only way for speed.
