so i am literally pulling my hair out trying to figure out the math for this big kohls trip i have planned for next weekend. i just moved into a new place in columbus and i need basically everything—towels, a vacuum, maybe a new air fryer. i have about 500 bucks to spend and i want to squeeze every cent out of it.
my logic was that i should just dump it all in one big transaction so i get a huge chunk of kohls cash at once to buy a kitchenaid mixer later but then i started thinking maybe that is stupid. i am basically torn between these approaches:
if i buy it all together am i losing out? like if i hit 48 dollars on one item i dont get that 10 bucks right? and the whole thing where coupons apply before the kohls cash calculation is so annoying because it drops my total below the threshold every single time. i am frustrated because i dont know if i can use cash earned on item A for item B in the same hour. the website is so vague about the timing...
^ This. Also, be super careful about the $48 threshold... kohls has this basically unwritten rule where if you are within two bucks of the $50 mark after all your coupons are applied, you still get the $10 cash. Its a total lifesaver when those 15% off codes mess with your math. I might want to consider checking the specific redemption dates on the site before you head out tho. Usually, you earn the cash one week and cant actually spend it until the following week, so using it for item B in the same hour isnt gonna work. If you are aiming for that KitchenAid, make sure to join the rewards program too bc you get an extra $5 for every $100 spent on top of the regular stuff. Just dont forget that when you finally spend that cash later, it gets deducted before any other coupons. It kinda sucks because it lowers the base price that the discount applies to, so just keep that in mind for your mixer fund.
just saw this and i gotta say... be really careful with the math because the sequencing is everything. i remember last year i spent like three hours calculating my cart for a big kitchen overhaul. i had it all perfect in a spreadsheet, or so i thought. i bought a shark vac and a bunch of linens, but i forgot that the percent-off coupons apply to the subtotal before they calculate the kohls cash. i ended up being like three dollars short of the next fifty dollar increment and missed out on twenty bucks. it was a total nightmare to return and rebuy because the system is so rigid about the timing. before you commit to that big haul, are you planning on stacking a kohls card discount on top of the regular coupons? also, which vacuum model are you looking at exactly? some of the high-end brands are excluded from coupons and that totally changes how the rewards math works out.
