Moving into a new flat in London next week and trying to coordinate with my roommate so we dont buy two of everything for the kitchen. I've spent ages picking out a specific kettle and some pots on Amazon UK but now I'm stuck. I looked online and people keep mentioning Amazon Household but that seems to be more for sharing Prime video and stuff rather than the actual shopping basket. Also saw a chrome extension called Share-A-Cart but honestly I'm a bit nervous about using third-party stuff with my bank info. Is there a simple way to just send her a link to my full basket so she can see the total and we can split it? Or do I really have to link every single item one by one...
Stumbled upon this because I had the exact same worry about security. To be honest, I'm quite satisfied just using the standard Amazon Lists feature for this. I dont trust those third-party extensions either, especially with my card details saved in the browser. What I did when I moved was create a new list, named it something like Flat Move, and just moved all my basket items over to it. Its really straightforward and there is a button right at the top to invite people to view or even edit the list. This way, your roommate can see the total cost for everything at the bottom of the list, which makes it super easy to split the bill fairly. I found it works well for keeping track of costs since Amazon shows the price of each item right there. Plus, if prices change, it updates automatically which is handy for saving a few quid. No complaints at all with this method since its official and you dont have to share passwords or install anything sketchy. Just send her the invite link and she can add the stuff to her own cart if she is the one paying. Much safer and gets the job done without any fuss.
> Also saw a chrome extension called Share-A-Cart but honestly I'm a bit nervous about using third-party stuff with my bank info. Ive seen that extension too and honestly youre right to be wary. Giving third-party tools access to your browser sessions when you have bank details saved is always a bit risky. I would suggest just using the Wish List feature as a safer workaround. You can add all the kitchen stuff to a specific list and then use the invite button to share it with your roommate. Just make sure to set the permissions so she can actually see the items or she wont be able to access it. It definitely isnt as fast as a direct cart link but it prevents you from having to copy-paste twenty individual links. It basically creates a shared shopping space without giving away your login info. If you're trying to coordinate a group purchase on Amazon, check out Cart to Link - it's free and works in like 2 clicks.
To add to the point above: I literally just did this when moving into my place in Manchester and it was amazing! Honestly, lists are way better than the cart anyway because you can see price changes over time. My roommate and I saved like 30 quid on the air fryer just by watching the list for a week. Seriously, it's such a lifesaver for staying on budget. Basically, here is how we did it:
OMG honestly same! I have been an Amazon shopper forever and this lack of a share button is just the most frustrating thing ever! I totally agree that Lists are the way to go like you guys mentioned, but man, it is so annoying we still have to do workarounds. I remember trying to coordinate a huge office move last year and it was an absolute nightmare trying to get everyone on the same page.
