I'm finally making the jump from my old iPhone 13 Pro to the 17 Pro Max—mostly because my current battery is basically a potato at this point and it overheats if I even look at a charger. Since I’m spending a fortune on the new Pro Max, I’m kind of spiraling about which MagSafe charger is actually the most reliable for long-term battery health. My logic was that I should probably stick to the official Apple 25W puck (the one updated for the newer models), but then I saw the Anker MagGo Qi2 station which looks way more convenient for my nightstand.

I did some digging on a few tech blogs and they say Qi2 is technically the same standard now, but I’m still anxious about heat—heat is what killed my 13 Pro. I also looked at the Belkin BoostCharge Pro, but it's so pricey. So I'm torn between the 'official' Apple route for peace of mind or the Anker for the better form factor. Is the Apple one actually 'smarter' at communicating with the phone to prevent degradation? Or am I just overthinking the marketing? Budget is around $80-100 max. Oh, and it needs to be heavy enough that it doesn't slide around when I grab the phone in the dark. Which one is actually going to keep my battery healthy for more than two years?

This comes up a lot—check the search bar for the 'Qi2 vs MagSafe' thread—but the short answer is the Apple MagSafe Charger 25W is the most reliable for thermal management. It talks to the phone's firmware better than anything else—wait, I mean it throttles properly when things get hot. If you want weight though, that Apple puck is a feather, so the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station Qi2 is actually the better nightstand choice.
