So I finally upgraded from my super old cracked Galaxy S8 to the OnePlus 12 and Im honestly obsessed with the camera and battery life, but im kinda confused about this wireless charging thing. I feel like such a noob because I thought all wireless chargers worked the same? My old phone didnt even have it so im totally lost here. Im looking for something budget-friendly because I already spent a lot on the phone, but I dont wanna accidentally ruin the battery or get one that charges at a snail's pace. Does the 12 need a specific type of charger to actually go fast or can I just grab any random one off Amazon?
TL;DR: OnePlus uses proprietary AirVOOC, so to get those insane speeds, you really need their specific hardware. If you use a standard Qi charger, you're capped at a crawl. Oh man, this is exactly my thing! Coming from an S8, the jump to the 12 is massive—you're going to love it. See, wireless charging isn't universal like I thought back in the day, either. If you want the full 50W speed, you absolutely have to pick up the OnePlus AIRVOOC 50W Wireless Charger. Anything else—like a generic Qi pad—is going to throttle you down to maybe 10W or 15W, which feels like a snail's pace compared to the brick. Anyway, bottom line: if you want the fast juice, don't cheap out on the pad itself. Just grab the official one and save yourself the headache.
Regarding what #1 said about proprietary speeds—listen, look, if you don't go with OnePlus AIRVOOC 50W Wireless Charger, you're just wasting current. Heat kills batteries. Stick to the OEM specs.
Same setup here, love it
