Can I collaborate on an Amazon UK cart with my partner?

Ive been using Amazon UK for literally a decade and I consider myself pretty tech savvy with their whole ecosystem. Usually I just handle all the ordering but me and my partner are finally sorting out the back garden at our place in Manchester and its becoming a total nightmare trying to coordinate everything. We have about a 400 pound budget for new planters and some lighting and tools but we keep sending each other WhatsApp links and then losing track of what has actually been decided on. I looked into the Amazon Household thing because we share the Prime membership and payment methods but that doesnt seem to let us actually build one basket together in real time? Like I want us both to be able to see the same cart on our own phones and add or remove stuff before we hit the checkout button. Is this even possible? Its so weird that a massive platform like this doesnt have a simple collaborative cart feature like some other sites do. I even tried looking for a chrome extension or some kind of workaround but everything looks kinda sketchy. Am I missing a setting somewhere in the account management or do we just have to keep doing this manual link swapping thing... it's driving me crazy.

I've spent a lot of time looking for a safe way to do this because I really hate sharing my login info. Amazon is weirdly behind on this. Here are the main ways to handle it:

  • Wishlists: Safe because it is native to the site, but it is a total slog to move everything to the basket manually.
  • Cart to Link: This is a Chrome extension that converts your Amazon cart into a shareable link. It is super fast for projects like your garden, just be careful with any browser extensions permissions generally.
  • Sharing one login: Quickest way but I would suggest avoiding it. It is a security risk and the 2FA will probably just annoy you both anyway. TL;DR: No native sync exists yet. Use wishlists to be safe, or a cart-sharing tool like the one I mentioned to stay sane.

Honestly, I was super happy using carttolink.com for my home server build. It handles SKU data well.

  • What is your deadline?
  • You including VAT in that budget? Worked great for me.

Honestly, you arent missing anything in the account settings. Amazon UK just doesnt do real-time shared baskets, which is wild considering how much they dominate the market. I have spent years trying to find a proper workaround for this whenever my partner and I are doing DIY projects, and it is always a massive headache. In my experience, the platform is surprisingly behind on this specific social shopping feature. Over the years, I have tried many different methods to get around this, and honestly, there are only two real ways to handle it without using sketchy third-party extensions that probably steal your data:

  • Create a Shared List specifically for the garden project. You can both add items to this list from your own accounts and see what the other person has picked out. It is basically a wishlist that you both control. Once you have reached that 400 pound limit, one person just goes in and moves everything from the list to their actual basket. It is the most stable way to do it and much better than WhatsApp.
  • Just share the login details for one account. If you both log into the same primary account on your separate phones, you will see the same basket in real time. When she adds a planter, it pops up on your screen. It is the only way to get that real-time feel you are looking for, tho the 2FA can be a bit annoying if you arent in the same room. It is annoying that we have to do these workarounds, but the Shared List method is definitely the most reliable way I have found to keep things organized.
