I'm finally ditching my ancient iPhone 11—the battery is basically dead—and upgrading to the OnePlus 13 for the better camera. I'm honestly so anxious about the charging though. I did some digging and found stuff about "SuperVOOC" and "USB-PD" (whatever that means), but the info is totally conflicting. One site says I must use the official 100W brick to get the speed, while another says any high-wattage laptop charger works. I don't want to fry the battery or waste money on the wrong thing. Sorry if this is a basic question, but I'm totally lost with these specs. Which power bricks are actually compatible for the fastest charging?

ngl coming from an iphone 11 is gonna feel like moving from a horse and buggy to a literal rocket... the charging speed is wild. tbh the conflicting info is because oneplus uses their own tech called SuperVOOC and it doesnt always play nice with standard chargers. if you want that MAX speed where it goes 0-100 in like half an hour, you lowkey need the official brick. standard laptop chargers use USB-PD which is cool but oneplus usually caps those at way lower speeds. i tried using my macbook brick on a oneplus before and it was so slow i thought it was broken lol. dw about frying the battery though, these phones have like a million sensors to stop that from happening. if youre trying to save money, dont go buying every random high wattage brick you see on amazon thinking itll work. if you want the best deal, look for the OnePlus 100W Dual Port SuperVOOC Power Adapter during a holiday sale or honestly even an older OnePlus 80W SuperVOOC Adapter will still be insanely fast and way cheaper. if you really want a budget "do everything" brick for other stuff, the Anker 735 Charger 65W is solid for travel but it wont hit those peak oneplus speeds. i usually just scour ebay for open-box official chargers to save a few bucks... just make sure the cable is the thick red one because the cable actually matters for VOOC tech too... its kinda annoying but thats the price for that crazy speed...

Oh man, this is exactly my thing — I've got like three different USB-C meters just for this. ^ This. Also, the magic is in the proprietary handshake (it offloads heat to the brick). If you want an alternative, the OPPO 80W SuperVOOC Wall Charger actually works since they share tech — wait, I mean the protocol is identical. I tried the Anker 737 Charger GaNPrime 120W but it only hits 45W max. Just stick to VOOC.

Totally agree about that handshake — it's why standard bricks fail. Everyone says you need the official 100W wall unit, but honestly, the markup is just brand hype. I've found that the BBK ecosystem — wait, I mean the sister brands — work perfectly for less:

  • Realme 65W SuperDart Power Adapter
  • OnePlus SuperVOOC 80W Car Charger Stick to those and ignore the 'official only' crowd; the speed difference is barely noticeable anyway.
