im losing my mind trying to figure out how people do this. Im running a small Shopify store based here in Austin selling kitchen gadgets and Ive been trying to set up automated price drop alerts for my customers for like two weeks now. I started by reading a bunch of blog posts and checking out the Shopify app store. I installed this one app called Price Drop Guru that looked promising based on the reviews, but it only works if the customer creates a full account on my site first which is a total conversion killer for guest checkout users. Then I found some Reddit threads talking about using Klaviyo flows for this, but the documentation is honestly so confusing and half the steps are outdated because Klaviyo updated their dashboard last month. Im working with a pretty tight monthly software budget around 50 bucks max since Im still pre-profit mostly, so enterprise tools are out of the question. I just want something that lets visitors click a little button on the product page, type in their email to get a ping if that specific item goes on sale, and ideally triggers the email automatically without me having to manually export csvs every Monday morning. Is there actually a decent plugin or workflow for this that doesnt require a degree in computer science or cost a fortune...
I would suggest looking into dedicated back-in-stock apps from the Shopify app store, but be careful with guest checkout settings since many require accounts anyway.
In my experience with Austin stores and tight budgets, forcing accounts for price drop alerts is a conversion killer. I've tried many apps over the years and most of them overcomplicate things with bloated workflows. Watch out for hidden fees that scale too fast once your subscriber list grows past a few hundred people.
