I am honestly so fed up with my current setup. I've been lugging around my DSLR for years, but the constant weight and the slow transfer process to my phone are absolutely killing my motivation to shoot travel vlogs. I'm finally pulling the trigger on the iPhone 17e because the computational photography specs sound insane, and I need a streamlined workflow that doesn't involve me dying of exhaustion before I even edit a clip.
I'm super excited to switch to a mobile-first kit, but I'm worried about the glass quality and stability out in the field. I've wasted so much time with jittery footage and mediocre lenses that blur the edges of my shots, and I just can't deal with that frustration anymore. I’m planning on doing a mix of run-and-gun street portraits and landscape video, but I have no idea where to start with the accessory ecosystem for this specific model.
I’ve got a decent budget set aside to get this right from day one, but I don't want to buy a pile of useless junk that’s gonna clutter my bag. I’m tired of stuff that doesn't fit right or feels cheap. Is there a specific set of ND filters or a cage system that actually works well with the 17e's sensor, or should I be looking at dedicated attachment lenses to really push the image quality? What are the absolute must-have accessories to make this transition worth it?
I'm no expert, but I just researched this. For the 17e, I'd suggest:
Building on the earlier suggestion, I've been through three different mobile rigs and honestly, avoid the cheap ones — I tried Neewer Phone Video Rig years ago and it was garbage. Just grab:
@Reply #1 - good point! This comes up a lot. I ditched my heavy gear years ago for mobile setups. Here are two solid options for your rig: 1. SmallRig iPhone 17e Video Cage
