im honestly so stressed about this upgrade. currently rocking a super old phone—think it was an iphone 7 or something?—and the battery is just absolute trash now, it dies if i even look at the camera app for five seconds. im finally pulling the trigger on the new OnePlus 15 because i heard the battery is supposed to be amazing and i really need that for work, but i have no idea how any of this new charging stuff works. ive seen people talk about 'super vooc' or something and it sounds like i cant just use my old white cables? im kinda worried about buying the wrong thing and frying the battery or it just charging super slow. my budget for accessories is pretty tight since the phone itself was already a splurge, but i just need something that actually works. sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the best fast chargers and cables i should get for this? do i have to buy the ones from the official site or are there cheaper ones that wont break my new phone?

Rarely post but saw this and had to chime in. Just grab the OnePlus SUPERVOOC 80W Power Adapter—it’s the only way to get full speed without frying your new battery.

Tbh, the official stuff is pricey, but you don't really need to overspend. If you're on a budget, just hunt for a sale on the OnePlus SUPERVOOC 80W Charger—it pops up on discount sites super often. Otherwise, just save your cash and grab a high-quality cable like the Anker 765 USB-C to USB-C Cable 140W. It handles the wattage fine and won't melt your wallet, even if the charging speed isn't quite maxed out.

This comes up a lot. You do not need to buy the official brand accessories for every single charging situation, but you do need to understand the underlying protocol if you want those fast speeds. OnePlus uses a proprietary technology that requires specific handshake signals between the brick and the phone. If you use a standard third-party brick, you will trigger a basic charging mode that is significantly slower than what your phone is capable of. If you want to save some money, look for reputable third-party brands that specialize in high-output power delivery and offer cables capable of handling high amperage. Go with Anker Power Delivery chargers or Baseus GaN series chargers, as you generally cannot go wrong with those for reliability. Just make sure the cable you pick is rated for high current; the thin cables you used with your old phone will not cut it and will likely get warm or trigger a safety throttle. Search the forum for threads on proprietary charging protocols if you want the technical breakdown, but the bottom line is that any reputable brand offering high-wattage GaN chargers will keep your battery healthy without the massive markup found on the official site. Just avoid the cheapest no-name brands on marketplaces to ensure you have proper thermal protection.
