So I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the OnePlus 15 because my old 9 Pro is just completely dying on me. Like, I’ve been using OnePlus phones for years, I know my way around the OS and the warp charging stuff, but the battery on this 9 Pro is so shot now that it barely lasts until lunch if I even touch the camera. I’m honestly kinda stressed about the battery life on the new one, especially since I heard they switched up the charging protocols or something? Or maybe I’m overthinking it and the old bricks still work, but I dont wanna risk frying the battery or something weird. I just need it to charge fast because I’m always running out the door at the last minute.

Here is what I'm looking for:

  • Budget: maybe around $50-$60 max, I already spent a fortune on the phone itself lol
  • Size: preferably something compact cause I travel a lot for work and my bag is a mess
  • Compatibility: needs to actually hit those high-wattage charging speeds, not just like standard PD speeds
  • Reliability: I’m paranoid about overheating, I had a third-party charger get way too hot once and I’ve been spooked ever since

I really need the camera to be ready at all times too, which is why the charging speed is my main priority since I’m always taking photos of my dog and the battery drains so fast when I use the burst mode. Does anyone know if the official SuperVOOC bricks are still the only way to go or are there legit third-party ones that dont compromise on the speed? I dont wanna spend 50 bucks on a brick if I dont have to, but I also dont wanna ruin the new phone on day one... any advice?

This comes up a lot. OnePlus uses proprietary SuperVOOC protocols, so standard USB-PD chargers will default to much slower speeds regardless of the wattage rating. If you want full speed without compromising battery health, you need a charger that supports the SuperVOOC handshake. Check out these resources for a better understanding of how these protocols interact:

  • OnePlus official battery health documentation
  • XDA Developers forums for technical breakdowns on VOOC/SuperVOOC compatibility For a compact, reliable option, I recommend sticking with the OnePlus 100W SUPERVOOC Power Adapter. It is designed specifically for the thermal profile of your phone. If you absolutely need a third-party option that maintains some level of compatibility, look specifically for licensed VOOC-certified GaN chargers, though they are rare and often priced similarly to the official brick. Don't risk a cheap generic charger; it isn't worth the heat damage.

> I dont wanna spend 50 bucks on a brick if I dont have to, but I also dont wanna ruin the new phone on day one... any advice? I totally get being cautious. Years ago I bought a knockoff charger for a tablet that ended up melting my outlet cover, and honestly, the anxiety of potentially ruining a brand-new device is never worth the $20 savings. If you want that peak speed without the headache, I personally stick to the official gear. I'd recommend getting the OnePlus 100W SUPERVOOC Power Adapter which usually sits right at your budget limit. It handles the protocol perfectly so you dont have to worry about heat buildup or slow charging. Just make sure your cable is rated for the wattage too, as that matters just as much. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your battery health.

Look, I get the stress — I’ve got three kids draining my own batteries faster than a phone ever could, so I know how it is. Dealers always try to upsell you on those "official" cables and bricks, but you're just paying for the logo. I replaced my own alternator last month; the shop wanted $600, but I sourced the part for $120 and did it in my driveway—total victory. For your OnePlus 15, you don't need to overspend to get those high-wattage speeds. Here is what I’d suggest:

  • OnePlus 80W SuperVOOC Power Adapter
  • Honestly, it costs about $40, and keeping it in the house has saved me a ton because I’m not replacing cheap third-party junk every six months.
  • Anker 735 Charger (GaNPrime 65W)
  • This runs around $55 and is tiny for traveling, though it might not hit the absolute peak proprietary speeds of the official brick, it’s reliable and doesn't overheat. Stick to the official one for home base if you want that instant burst, and save the cash for more dog treats.
