so Ive been using my old iphone 11 for literally forever now and honestly the battery barely lasts half a day and the screen is so cracked I cant even see my photos properly anymore... tbh I finally decided to treat myself and switch to something totally different because foldables looked so cool online and I managed to grab a OnePlus Open on sale.

only problem is... Im super clumsy. like I drop my phone at least once a day minimum. looking at the Open makes me kinda terrified cause it looks expensive and delicate and folding screens seem like they need way more protection than a normal slab phone. I dont know anything about phone cases tbh, like are heavy duty cases even a thing for foldables?

my budget is around 40 to 60 bucks hopefully, and I dont really care about having the absolute best camera protection since I mostly just take pics of my cat, but I really need something bulky that wont slip out of my hands while I'm watching videos. Also Im totally confused by all the hinge protection stuff out there, some cases cover it and some dont and I have no idea which one is actually better or if it makes the phone too chunky to fit in my pocket.

sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the best rugged cases for OnePlus Open that wont break the bank?

Like someone mentioned, you really gotta watch out for the bulk with these things (I've been through three of these folding phones already, so trust me on this). Tried a super thick armored case years ago and it was absolute garbage — things may have changed a bit now, but a massive case just makes the Open way too heavy for your pockets. Here is how the main options actually stack up:

  • Poetic Spartan OnePlus Open Case: Great if you want built-in screen protection, but wait, no — I mean it's insanely chunky. Good grip though.
  • Spigen Tough Armor Pro OnePlus Open Case: Much better daily driver. Decent hinge coverage without feeling like you're carrying a brick.
  • OtterBox Defender OnePlus Open Case: Solid protection as always, but pricey unless you catch a sale. Basically, just grab something with textured sides so your cat photos don't end up interrupted by another concrete drop.

Quick safety thought while I've got a second — coming from an iPhone 11, you really want to protect that investment. I learned that the hard way when I shattered my old tablet by rushing the case installation. Just make sure you take your time.

  • Look for deals on the OtterBox Defender OnePlus Open Case since they sometimes go on clearance.
  • Double-check the return policy before ordering just in case it feels too bulky in your pocket.

Look, I spend all day dealing with heavy machinery and dropping tools on concrete, so I know a thing or two about what takes a beating. Listen, ditch the flimsy stock case right now. You need something that locks down that hinge without turning your pocket into a brick. Check out the Poetic Spartan OnePlus Open Case with Hinge Protection — runs about fifty bucks and actually stays put in greasy hands. The built-in kickstand is great for watching cat videos on the workbench too. Wait, no — make sure you press the frame down tight so the front piece doesn't shift when you open it. It adds some heft, sure, but that's what keeps a grand-plus phone from turning into a pile of shrapnel when you fumble it off the lift.

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.
